Take the bumper off, get a chain or rope and tie it to the front of the panel, find a post or another car which you can tie the other end of the rope to, put into reverse, go back slowly as your mate keeps an eye on how far you have pulled the panel out, when ok put bumper back on.....job done.

Then send the old git to specsavers.

It can probably be repaired by someone in the know very easily, being a low speed crash, the chassis legs and important stuff should be ok,,
The insurance will probably wright it off, the repair will probably be classed as uneconomical, so its up to you if you go throough insurance or not.

Its an L reg car worth a few hundred quid at the end of the day.

A new cross member, alignment check, respray for the cross member etc would come to more than the car is worth if done at a bodyshop.

Insurance companies tend to quote back to pre-accident condition so it would have to look like there was never anything wrong with it.

Don't worry mate, you are not paying a penny, he is on his insurance...might as well get it done, ask the insurance if you can get three quotes and then get the job done.

I don't know weather you can do this any more now, but years ago when people ran into my back, I used to make my own claim through their insurance companies and never got mine envolved, so I used to get some garages to give me an estimate, two are needed minimum then, and write to his insurance company and demand the damages, they would then write back to you to send them a pro-forma invoice as you tell them that you are insured third party only so don't want to get your insurance involved in this matter.

I claimed like that a couple of times each time I received a cheque and banked it but did not get my car repaired, thats my problem, I used a big hammer and bumped out any bend sections and drove the car like nothing has happened, since its not worth repairing certain cars if they are too old or tatty.

yep you still can, did a couple last month, as long as his insurance will allow you to get the set amounts of quotes which they need then its no real problem after that.
