Hmm need some quick confirmation please

cut a long story short someone tried to jump start using the girlfriends car last week but connected the leads up the wrong way and had sparks evrywhere due to the short, today i had a phonecall becasue it wouldnt start when i got there the battery was tottaly dead just enough power to light the ignition very dim, this had happened over a period of 5 minuites where the radio was on but nothing else, so bump started it and all ok but i need to confirm before i do anything by shorting the battery will it of caused it to **** the cells up inside and not hold its charge?

and to top it all off the handbrake cable snapped when i pulled it a bit hard not happy now, gonna cost battery, cable and mot on thursday

What it seems like is that you should shoot the twonk who mixed the leads up and buy a new battery. But check that the alternator hasn't been damaged. Hand break cable is not a big job but a bit fiddley at this time of year.

yeah mate the crossing of the leads caused a short in the battery, The only thing you need to worry about is that it didn't feed back to the alternator. coz it may have shorted that as well. Get the alternator checked before you shag a new battery as well.

ok will do should be able to check the alternator with a meter measuring 14v when running yea?

just thinking now have had an intermitant fault with eml light since the leads where crossed could just be coincidence tho and i cant read the fault to find out what it is due to the age of the car.

all i will say is he is a realtion of hers lol
