    GTE question

I had GTE 16v springs fitted to my 1.3 yesterday they are -40mm Spax springs and I know they wont drop quite that far as 2.0 weighs more.

The front has dropped about 30mm now and may drop slightly further.

Now the question is that the rear height is still about standard. The guy who fitted the stuff for me said that the -40mm rear springs were actually longer than the standard springs, is this because the 16v has a different rear beam and they sit differently on that?

It hasnt settled fully yet and I have stuck 5 mini wheels in the boot for some weight to help it settle lmao

Think it'll be a bloody miracle if it setles down 30mm. Try 5 tractor wheels.

16v has pretty much the same rear beam. And rear weighs the same. So I'd let them settle. The spring length when unloaded could be a bit longer since they're progressive springs (ie both a weak part and a stiffer part to them). Either that or your previous ones were knackered.

    No, now f*** ***.

Davv - the front has dropped 30mm so far

Tom - cheers, i'm hoping they'll settle. Could it be not dropping at the rear much because I put on more beefy GTE 16v rear shocks as opposed to 1.3 shocks like the fron have and that they are stopping it dropping?

PMC_3 I was reffering to the back.

Shocks have zero efect on static ride height, its all in the springs.

Maybe the springs are not right? I've standard GTE 16v in the house, I'll measure them if you like?

Standard lenghts shocks with lowered springs. The shocks will need to be compressed a bit for the car to sit on the springs. If the shcoks are more butch then I was thinking it may not be dropping all the way, I am probably wrong though lmao

The rear GTE 16v shocks were wider ie bigger pistons, so harder to compress.

yeah harder to compress under shock, they wont make the car sit higher from just constant compresion from gravity.
