Buying used Astra - any particular problems to look out for ?

I am about to start looking for a 99 New Model 1.6 Astra 5 speed Estate for my father. Are there any particular problems with this car that I should look out for re the mechanicals or electrics that might indicate an expensive repair is needed ? I have quite a bit of mechanical experience but mostly with Fords and track cars so am not too familier with what to look for on Vauxhalls .

Any advice would be appreciated

The following:

Centre console hazard light switch goes faulty
Rear arches
Boot lower lip
Gearbox linkage
Driverseat wear
Rear wiper motor goes...

The above won't apply to urs with it being so new though...more than likely
