    Immobiliser trouble, pls help

My mate's Omega has been sitting outside his workplace for the last week as he can't get the immobiliser to disable.

Its an L reg Omega, 2.5 litre V6 ecotec. The immobiliser can't be turned off so he can't start the car, is there any way to bypass it? Anyone have any ideas? Cheers

Try a spare key? Cuz sometimes, the immobiliser transponder thingy in the key doesn't work... So a spare key could be the thing to go for. Apart from that, I'm not sure. They made them pretty well in my opinion. Stu

Ah, will tell him to try another key, cheers

Ben, he has changed the battery I think

If another key doesn't work it looks like he is gonna have to spend some coinage getting someone out to it

Hey if the immob is on cos the transponder in the key is faulty? if so all you might need is a new transponder key, and someone to program it?? But i have seen the immob crtl units fail on omega tho, assuming its a factory fitted one.

how do you know for sure its the immobiliser, could it not be something else? like crank sensor failure, or seized fuel pump. have you definitely checked ecu codes? some transponders don't require any batteries to operate, these are the ones wothout the button in the key. These communicate (exchange security data codes) with the transponder ring around the ignition barrel and which further communicates to the ECU, so make sure all the wiring and connectors to the ecu to transponder are connected etc. the actual RFID chip inside the key uses no batteries to activate and is activated by the ignition surround coil the bezzel. Yours may not be this type though, yours may be the type where you press a button on your key fob which operates central locking and then you switch on ignition and press again to deactivate immobiliser.
