Rite need sum help with lower arm bushesrite been changing the suspension on my bro

rite been changing the suspension on my bro in laws astra and we decided to change the lower arm bushes to the polyutherine ones. i tried to cut then out, tried to use a hammer and a bit of gentle persuasion lol but still it didnt work, now av ****ed one of them. i rounded the head off so the bolt doesnt slide through it cleanly, it bites the bush and instead of moving freely now it has a bit of spring in it. so we now deffo need to change the bushes cos we dont trust the ones that are in. so if anyone has any ideas then it wud be much appreciated cheers

Agreed. I'll read it when it is readable.

It hurts my brain just looking at it

I've beaten them out with a large hammer before now. There's no point beating around the bush and giving it a bit of "gentle persuasion". If you haven't got a big vice or a press, it's got to be one of those occasions where all hell breaks loose and you just beat it hard repeatedly, until the needle on the Schitzometre hits force 10 and you start talking/screaming in a language that no one has ever heard before.
Try and find something the same diametre as the outer edge of the bush and beat it out with that. Make sure the wishbone is well supported underneath so you don't bend it.

... don't you normally need a hydraulic press and require about 3 or 4 tons of pressure?

so getting the replacements back in again would require a similar amount, I'd have thought beating the c**p out of it with a hammer wouldn't get even close - at least not without destroying the wishbone ...

I polybushed the front of my Astra last Summer. I ended up beating the old bushes out with a big lump hammer and a couple of nicely sized/positioned bits and pieces of metal. If you didn't support the wishbone properly, you could easily damage it with the hammer. I used a big vice last few times I did bushes on Astras/Cavs (it was out of order when I was polybushing the Astra lol). The polybushes are a lot easier to fit than standard bushes. The rear bush needs a bit of pressure to squeeze it in, but you can fit all the polybushes using your bare hands.

Penetrating oil, and try and find something the same diameter as the bush to help it out.

This is how we did my land rover bushes, and they'd been in there for 30 years.
Teeth? LUXURY! When I was a child we ate by putting rocks in our mouth and jumping up and down.
