    How Many Grounds?????

I'm trying to get to the bottom of my mis firing problem. I've been told to check all my grounds. I know there is the one from the battery to the shell. Two on the cam belt side of the fuel rail and another one on the right hand side of the inlet manifold. Is there any others i should check? Desperatly need to solve this as i'm meant to be running this new engine in.

There's most likely one from the gearbox, plus definitely one from the alternator. Double them all up if you are serious about the car

sorry yes forgot about alternator. One on the gearbox. Where abouts would it be? Front or back and i take it it just goes to ground. I.e. it's not loomed in. Also by doubling them up do you mean by way off them ground wire kits you can get from places like halfrauds. Cheers, Phil.

    Is the fuel rail earthed?

To eliminate most of the engine earths, just run a earth wire from the alt body/brkt straight back to the -ve terminal.

This sorted a nasty misfire on my last XE that I had swapped coils, AFM, fuel pumps & filters etc.
    it's a C20XE not a fookin Redtop FFS

as above, halfords sell decent ground and +12v leads with eyellets, for not allot.

did it recently to my mk3 astra. one long one direct from the battery earth post to the rear left engine lifting lug hole on the LET head, then a short one from the same place to a bolt ontop of the inlet manifold.

standard one is there from the altenator to the engine bracket.

    earthed like a mofo

The one on the gearbox is on the front edge on the gearbox, if you jack it up and full lock left, you should see it through the arch, if not then its hidden behind the plastic liners. It has to be a big cable and it goes to the same chassis point as the battery.

I did a diy job on that one and it melted the insulation and snapped cos theres so much current passing through when cranking

You don't need an earthing kit... FFS it's just decent gauge wire with some terminals on the end. Make it up youself

Also clean up any points where the earths reach a metal surface. Use a wire brush and make sure there is a good clean contact. I did this on my last car and gained 2v when charging

Yeah, as chav sais, nice and thick at least 8 gauge i'd say, 4 isnt that much more, add some decent crimp hoop terminal thingies and you have yourself a 'kit' !!

Or if you have a spare xe loom lying around use the thick battery cables from that, twist the ends and make into a hoop, cover the thing in solder and when tightening use a washer to squash it, hey presto fannys your aunt !!
