    Corsa knocking??

    My mate passed his test
on wednesday and has just bought a corsa 1.2 merit on an L plate, with 81000 on the clock for £300. The bloke he bought it off said it was a bit "cammy" on start up. The noise is a constant knocking in time with the engine revs. What could this be? He isnt worried about repairs as between us we can probably fix it, just dont want to start unless we can find out if anyone else has experienced same??

Dont understand the difference between typed sounds! Thing is mate, im not a mechanic, and have only really learned about cars int he past 2 years. Ive never had much engine trouble with my corsa, so dont have a lot of experience of noisy engines etc. The noise sounds a lot louder when the bonnets up, and from the few minutes ive heard it sounds near to the top, suggestnig cam. His dad worked on older cars for years, and thinks big ends..... My pal over the road, is a qualified (NVQ) who worked for an mg specialist, and he said big end..... Who would know best???!!

i would go with the majority and say big ends if its a deep loud thumping sort of knock then that would be my first point of interest cams tend to make a higher piched rattly noise and lifter tap like **** all three sound are tottally different

If he swapped engines, I reckon he'd only go
for another 1.2 as he wants to keep insureance low
for aroud 6 months, til he saves. Just takes longer than fixing
    one he already has !
