sometimes the cts can go completely faulty and give out a reading of about -43 degrees but sometimes it can give just a reading thats slightly odd for the engines temperature and make it run funny and cut out.

I would go with fuel pump relay to start with - a CTS tends not to cut the engine, it will make it run lean to rich but shouldn't give enough of a reading to shut down the engine.

You could try bridging the relay, joining the two biggest wires, so the pump is constantly running see if the fault goes away. It could be a imobiliser fault if the car has one, cutting the fuel pump relay out?

fuel pump relay is sometimes in the black box under the bonnet. Swap it for yours and see what happens?

Or when it cuts out, run round and press the schrader valve but don't blame me if you're engulfed by a 6 foot flame.

Yeah, fuel pump relay, small black rectangular box, normally near the passenger side suspension turret, or next to the ecu in the footwell, iirc.
