Vauxhalls as tunable as fords?

Hi, ive always been a vauxhall fan, since i was 10 with a nova field car, since then ive owned a few. I always asumed vauxhall had better engines/tunability etc - Take the mk6 escort for example, the 1.8 16v is only 105 bhp (where as vauxhalls was 115+) Ok not alot of difference,

Its just that a mate of mine has a mk6 escort 1.8 si, 105 bhp std, and was enquiring about engine modifications, and has found a company that will give him a rebuilt engine with throttle bodies and alot of other tuning goodies, on an exchange basis for his old engine. The new one will be putting out 210 bhp, and it costs £1600

He's adamant thats the final price, no engine management, fitting etc on top of that price.

I cant remember the name of the company, but if i do will post it up

So what would be the best gains overall for a nova for the £1k mark

Was thinking c16xe with few tuning goodies?? (wanna stay small block for handling/driveability)

throttle bodies.

that escort 1800 16v zetec motor makes 130bhp in certain trims so teh 105bhp versions obviously more restricted so its a bit more likely the power gains are possible

Nitrous! Pound for pound it cannot be beaten...

Doesn't affect reliability or economy when you're not using it either

Agreed, you'd be lucky to get the TBs for that. Looking at 140bhp on that engine with tbs, max.

you can get about 170 with simple mods, but it will come to a little over 1600 for the parts excluding exchange engine
and burtons aint all that fyi, they are overpriced on most stuff and dont have the time/expertise to put out the quality they once did

Cossvaux
Agree with Rob_S burton arent that good, fair enough they can supply over priced bits but the expertese(sp)just isnt there anymore.
Imo any engine variant is as good as the other in the long run, ford(mainly cossie)has alot of race history/development over the vx unit, however we can always steel there ideas and technology and use it as our own
