2.2 (z22se) Timing Chain Fault!!!!!!!!!!

http://cgi.ebay.co.uk/Vauxhall-Astra...QQcmdZViewItem

I found the above on eBay last night and got in touch with my local Vauxhall Dealer first thing this morning. Vauxhall are aware of the problem but have not done a recall. The quote I got to do the job on my Vectra B is £50 parts, £470 Labour!!!! Apparently it's a 7 hour job. If your engine number falls below 11065400 then it does not have the timing chain modification. Has anyone else heard of this problem?

Yip I've heard of the problem. Quite a few people on vvoc have been affected by this.
There was also a small column in the Telegraph a few weeks ago on it.

Do a search for my thread...the chain snapped on mine a few weeks ago. Vauxhall paid half in the end so the bill was a little bit more than you've been quoted for the swap.

Only a tiny batch of engines were effected, and should have been fixed during servicing. Assuming your dealer is doing the servicing properly, or you've had it serviced in a main dealer.

Considering how crap most Vauxhall dealers are, it's no surprise cars are slipping through unmodified.

So, if you have a car that hasn't been upgraded, will Vaux do it FOC?

Yes, as long as your car is covered by the recall. Call Vauxhall Customer Services in Luton with your VIN number and they'll tell you if your engine is effected. They'll give you a recall code which you can give to your dealer.

That's how it worked with my 1.2 Corsa C (faulty chain tensioner).

Tiny batch:

2 years worth of engines in AstraG, Zafira and Vectra B.

That's got to be many thousands.

Compared to the global use of the 2.2 Ecotec, it's a tiny batch.

Vxl would have checked your engine number.
It would have been fitted with the modified parts from the factory.

I originally spoke to Twells Of Billinghay (Lincs). They told me my car was included in this recall. I have a 51 Plate SRi. I ended up contacting Customer Care in Luton. They informed me that my car is OK. I asked them to put it in writing for me and they did. That was good enough for me.
