Anyone got any info on smaller/lighter batteries? Must be some availble for racing, etc.
Need it to cope with a 20XE, but thats all, no ICE, or anything fancy. But whats the minimum that would efficiently start a 20XE?
Any info anybody?

oooh keep clutching at those straws Bri
these are pretty pricey things, try phoning the proper racing dept of demon tweeks as they do sell some funky **** (then buy the recommended battery from somewhere cheaper lmao)
also pm novarally as he probably uses them and if he doesnt then they aint worth using![]()
heh, heh, one of the straws has to be the winning one!
cheers dude, I'll email NR later. He might not use one though because of regulations he bound by or something, but I expect he will know if there's many available for £5.lmao

try a battery from a large motorbike, shoud be high enough capacity, but designed to be lightweight.
mmm, cheers cavvy, will keep a look out for them then.![]()

well an xv1100 uses an 18Ah battery, but a normal astra one is only about 60 odds. M&P do a lightweight 24Ah one which should be sufficient for around £32 brand new.

can it crank my b1tch up? lmao lmao lmao lmao
mines summat like 560 cranking amps or whatever
Or...electric wheelchair/golf buggy batteries....very small and loads of amps.Had two given to me and then binned them after they had been in me boot for yonks....could`nt give them away at the time![]()

Batteries for electric traction can't be used for starting engines.Originally posted by AL

Traction batteries may have a high Ah rating but can not supply the (giant) currents a startermotor needs.
Starting a engine needs 200-400 amps, depending on the weather. (cold, thick oil, more current). While delivering the 200-400 amps, voltage may NOT drop below 9 volts.
Motorcycles, got small starter engines with a different "gear ratio" to the engine, so I guess motorcycle batteries are to light.
You can try to use the smallest car battery, and that would be about 36 Ah.
What means 60 Ah: the "current" that the batterie can deliver in a period of 20 hour without the voltage dropping below 10,5 volts (for a "12V battery) Sometimes the max. "Cold Cranking Amps" are mentioned on the battery as CCA

youd be surprised, my gsx400 only had a 12ah battery and ran out of fuel at the bottom of a steep valley, and i was gettin knackered pushing it up so i whipped out the plugs, jumped on it, stuck it in first and held the starter, and it kept going for ages got me a lot of the way up the hill.
Yep, peak current discharge will be determined by the internal resistance of the battery. This I should be able to find out for any battery, so I won't have to buy a battery without knowing it's gonna do the job.
I just wondered. I'd have thought for a start that some other technologies would be present. Racing with a box of lead acid up front doesn't sound brilliant.
Maybe a drycell would be better. Anyway, thanks for all the info, I'll have a look around to see what I can find.
I think I've got enough things on the go at the moment!
