The best thing you can do by far is buy a Haynes manual.

yup, buy a Haynes manual and then go on Ebay and search for 'Zafira Service Kit'

You should get a service kit for about £25 then buy some quality oil.

I just had a look on e-bay, for just 23.99 plus £8 p+p I can get a full service kit!! Im going to go to Vauxhall first to see if they do a kit for less!
Then I need a haynes manual!

No buy the manual first then you can see what bits you need in the service kit as it depends on the mileage what you replace.

    true

you only need oil and filter every 10K, although Haynes recommend every 5K.

for the air filter, fuel filter and spark plugs the Haynes manual recommends changing these every 40K / 4 years.

It was last serviced at Vauxhall at 40k, its now on 71k so I think it would need a full service!

You mean no services since 40k miles and now on 71k miles?

If that's the case, I'd start with the oil. and filter.
and while at it, air and fuel filter as well, crappy/cheap gas contains lots of particles.
leads will start losing their efficiency at about 80k miles (guesstimate, mine did at least) so I'd change 'em too. and spark plugs as well.
Note: the above may or may not be entirely correct.
I wondered why the frisbee was getting bigger, and then it struck me.

Sod worrying about the timing belt, the oil will have stopped actually being oil a long time ago, which won't have done the bearings, rings, bores and whole top end of engine any good.

No, it had a full service and cambelt change at 40k. I bought it with 26k on the clocks with a full Vauxhall service history......I then paid for Vauxhall to do the service at 40k including cambelt! It cost over £400, so thats why its now on 71k with no service from Vauxhall.

I might just take it to the dealer after christmas and have a full service and cambelt change.
    What do you guys think????

Or is it worth me doing the service and getting somebody else to do the cambelt, as I dont think im up to the job!

Vauxhall don't do a service kit, they did a few years back for the trade!

Change the oil NOW don't wait until after Christmas! 31k miles on oil is NOT GOOD especially over the colder season.

Done the oil change yesterday, went to Vauxhall and got a oil filter for £4 and he gave me a sump plug washer free! Went to my friends house and put it up on the ramps.......took me about ten minutes. Easier than I thought, dont like the fact the oil filter is next to the exhaust manifold. I think I might tackle spark plugs and leads next!! Just can't seem to see the spark plugs on the thing?

remove the plastic cover then, probably two large bolts, or plastic clips (or a combination)...
Can't do anything wrong removing it...

I think they don't have leads and the sparkpack sits right on top of the engine.

Done both, drained the oil out of the sump plug, put new sump plug washer on too! Then changed the oil filter and filled up with new oil!!

edit: You cant just change an oil filter, you need to drain old oil out first!!

Saying that, My friend years and years ago.....did just that. He drain out the old oil and then changed the filter, then proceeded to put back in the old oil! To say I was shocked is an understatement. I told him what he had done but he didnt care!
