Glad i was of assistance

The noise you are hearing is NOT wategate chatter, if your penny valve was rattling back and forwards making a noise like that it would fall straight off!

The noise is actually the sound of boost making its way back across the blades of the compressor side of the turbo, it sounds much like blowing onto a desk fan.

Its possibly a sign that your dumpvalve isnt operating properly (the build in recirc one if you dont have an external one) as that should be relieving the pressure and stopping this from happening.

On some turbos it can damage the turbo more or less instantly, on others its fine, on others it will wear it out quicker but not break it quickly.

T3 = last forever doing this
K16 = wear quicker but basically be ok
GT35 = instant death more or less

DV is clean and brand new do i need to take a spacer out~? if i do short changes with foot no where near the floor its fine u just get DV psssshhh but higher revs/more loads. you here compressor stall before DV!! any ideas??

ahhh thanks for clearing that up

another question, if i get an external dump valve, which im going to anyway, will that stop air going back through the blades?

also what the standard turbo on a LET? T3?

cheers

Standard LET turbo = K16 mate

nutsaboutastras, if its only happening under 5psi, it will be a pretty mild amount of stall, so i wouldnt worry about it on a K16 personally.

Yeah that will help stop stall but the standard one should also be fine at low boost levels ??

Standard turbo on the C'let is a KKK K16. Smaller than a T3 I'm afraid

Sorry, bit of confusion here, is that what happens:

under 5 psi, let off throttle hard = no noise
under 5 psi, let off throttle gentley = no noise
over 5 psi, let off throttle hard = dump valve operates
over 5 psi, let off throttle gentley = turbo stall noise

Is that right?

under 5 psi let off hard just= DV
no problem

Under 5 psi let off gently= just DV
no problem

Over 5 psi let off hard= turbo stall then DV
potentially a bit of an issue, how long do you get the turbo stall noise for though?

Over 5 psi let off gently= turbo stall then DV
no problem

1 second of turbo stall isnt going to have any significant effect.

If you weaken the DV so it opeates sooner then it will potentially lead to itrunning rich and spluttering when you let off the throttle (air flow meter + atmospheric dump valve = bad idea)
