Does anyone know if it will damage the rack.

No as it is designed this way.
So running a power steered rack without power steering pipes on the pump wont cause it any damage.![]()

hi mate not to sure if that is feasible coz theys are slightly different! Im guessing it wub be like trying to turn thr wheel of a power steered model with the engine off!
vectra b z20let.
Cav diplomat auto, the workhorse!!
it would be ok for a short distance but prolonged use may well damage the seals in the rack.
the steering will be mighty heavy though abit lighter on the move but sill heavy
another problem is the pas pump will pump fluid all over when the engine is running of if theres no fluid in the system it will damage the pump
Mates cossy leaked it's pas fluid all over my drive, so took the belt off. It was not funny driving it like thislmao
No but driving with the disconnected will.Originally Posted by stereorob

remove the belt to the pump and that will be ok
very heavy steering not worth it unless its an emergency
what car is it. what else does the belt run, alternater, water pump etc
It doesn't matter if you remove drive to the pump. The rack itself is designed to work with fluid circulating through it. If there is no fluid it will be damaged.
the pump will deffo be foooked without fluid in it if run.
They're there, in their room.
True. I think i the way i worded it sounds like i'm saying the pump will be fine, which of course it won't.
I just got the problem of gettin the old xel pas pipes to fit the xe pump, their too long.![]()

fact.
Running pump with no fluid will feck it.
Turning the wheels without fluid going through it will feck the seals after time, if it dont damage your arms before hand.
I wouldnt run it without fluid and pump running at all, aint worth it, racks arnt nice to replace.
