Mk3 Suspension - what is gone/worn?

My car passed an MOT without a problem today, might not be much but thought id let it be known

basically my suspension has started creaking (like the same sorta noise in a porn movie when the bed is shaking lol) more or less eveytime i go over a ramp, seems to hit them quite hard aswel. (not quite sure what its supposed to be like but cant remba my old mk3 being like this)

yet if i push down on either side of the wrong wings it seems fine and makes no noise at all, any idea's what it could be?

Try sparying some WD40 on to the front wishbone inner mounting bushes. The noise is normaly caused by the bush twisting against the mount. This is only really a temporary fix though as the squeek is normaly the first sign of the bushes starting to fail.

was thinking about trying to wd-40 round there, could swear the rear squeaks aswel seems to be one side not 100% sure on this, my car has done 63k i was thinking it could be the shocks, the ride just seems quite harsh.

my car seems to hit ramps quite hard, i have only been able to compare it to new cars which seem to have no problems going over ramps which in my car you really feel

ahh yea mine does that aswel, seems mostly when im reversing on full lock or close to it, they make some weird noise seems to have got alot better since i changed all the tyres though

top mounts is that a major suspension part?

do they affect ride quality aswel?
The top mount is the top suspension munting for the Mcpherson struts (front spring and shock absorber unit). So yeah, it is a fairly majour suspension component (although in itself not expensive). It consists of some metal plates bonded rubber and bearing to allow the unit to swivel when under load. They can affect ride quality, although unless they are completely shag*ed and your shocker tops are resting on the underside of the bonnet it won't be that noticeable.

Perhaps its an orgy in the back...........

I've got a fair few groans & clunks of late... Also the clutch seems to be changing character ( warning of wearing out perhaps... wot ? after only ten years use ? )

With the wrong side of 130k up I am thinking of getting the suspension rebuilt ( to old & tired to do it myself ). What have you got on the clock, Dave ?

just seems to hit bumps hard, du know how much they are roughly?

this wouldnt make a difference to the steering in anyway would it
I wouldn't have thought it would be the strut top miuntings causing this but perhaps your shock absorbers.

Top mounts: There about £60 for the pair and a garage would typically charge an hour's labour per side to fit them.

If they are badly worn they can affect the steering geometry and upset the way the car steers / handles.

well ive decided to go for a set of performance shocks and springs from tuning.co.uk i hear good reviews about them and will improve handling anyway

anyone got any idea's how much top mounts are as i may aswel replace them so it doesnt need to be done in the future
