Question Fancy Laser 4 Way Tracking in Mids

    Hiya's,
Ordered n got discount on all brakes/steering and other assorted parts from vaux

Now, I am ordering a set of Toyo proxies in the morning

Now when i sorted all new front n back braking/joints etc etc, I had got a m8 of a m8 (mechanic) to slap new tyres on n balance each for a fiver a corner (good price i thinks for area i am

Now he said (mechanic) that tracking a mk2 was a pain in the butt, I jumped in and explained all front drive stuff joints/etc will be brand new etc

He then gave in and said if all the parts are new he WILL track it

Now this didn't install too much confidence in the facilities they maybe using to do the tracking !!

    So..............

Anyone in midlands eg: Wolverhampton across to Burton-on-Trent and anywheres in between no of where i can get this funky Laser 4 tracking done and more to the point how much $$$ would i be looking at ??

If i can get tyres on n balanced etc i wanna get tracking done as best as it can be but aint got a clue around Lichfield area where the trackings not done the old fashion way

Hope someone in mids can point me in right direction

    Many Thanks

    Have Fun

I dunno about your area but "apples" charged me £25 to laser track the astra on xmas eve. (only went there cos it was the only place still open else i wouldve had the tracking done normally)

Tracking a mk2 IS an absolute pain IF its not been done for a while. They seize really badly and can be very stubborn to undo, usually requires heat and a lot of mauling.
If its all new on the front end you really shouldnt have a problem getting it done anywere u choose to go 25 quids about right if u dont know anyone that'll do u a discount.

Used too but the bloke left very inconsiderate of him.
Last couple of times Ive just taken cars to Kwik Fit, the blokes are supposed to be trained how to use the equipment properly and at least they get the car up on a ramp and have some half decent equipment to use.
Its down to the individual using the equipment at the end of the day, if they are a lazy ***k or not. I always watch em doing it and keep an eye on the guages and make sure they do it right, one other thing is to make sure they tighten it all up with the guages still in place, then u know its locked in the right position
If all the stuff on the front end is free it makes everything easier for them to do so they should be perfectly capable of doing it right

    me bitch hard !!
Personally I don't trust them laser alignment stuff - It's a laser so will be needed to be calibrated on a regular basis - Doubt this gets done !! and so your tracking be fecked !!

I would definitely use the laser alignment. On last car noticed inside edges were starting to wear, checked on the old type was told it was spot on. Few months later the tyres were knackered on the inside. Went back and was told only half a minute/degree out - nothing to worry about. Took it to a laser tracker and it was 6 degrees out. So it cost me a pair of tyres.

Nottingham has a brilliant Lazer 4-wheel alliner at Nottingham Allignment centre and they charge £30. If you want further details just ask. They have done my Corsa many times as im always changing suspension etc but they can also do camber and castor adjustments where applicable at extra cost.

    Hiya's,
Add_Gee I found National Tyres next to KFC (opp reynolds old bar) will do it

Weird thing is he wasn't worried about the joints etc on front steering he was worried about the rear wheels

He placed a "T" shaped gauge over rear tyre and where the centre of the T meets it was roughly where the centre of wheel is, He said no prob m8

I explained about me having trouble getting somewhere to track it because of the front joints namely the tie-rod-ends and he said how weird we only worry about rear clearance

Can't figure it out but she is getting tracked hopefully this weekend if i can find time

    Toyo's grip great btw

Got last of my parts from autovaux (real speedy deliveries ) so all i need is time and nephew to shift his banger off sisters drive so i can sort it all ready for tracking

Mot is almost on me but i can't see her failing (i hope anyways) lol

As for nottingham no-way am i going there again too weird a story to grasp even to this day

    Well Have Fun

    Ciao

I went to there yesterday!! The scrappy in Stafford is really well hidden now on the Newport road out of Stafford.

Last time i had the mk3 tracked they refused to do it (same upper setup as MK2)

So i took it home, got the steering arms off complete with tie rod ends, took them off, and got the adjuster thread out with a vice (was badly seized) then cleaned the thread up with WD40 and a wire brush, fitted it again and took it back.

I made the mistake of doing the threads up unevenly though and we only just managed to pull off a dead straight tracking on it with the steering wheel at a slight turn.

I just got mine tracked in on a hunter machine

Awesome bit of kit, users cameras that look at big reflective pads they attatch to your wheels, measures camber, castor, runout, steer ahead, ackerman, toe in/toe out, suspension camber compensation just about EVERY angle you can think of!!

really is a bralliant machine, its got its own special ramp and a pc at the front with four cameras in it...and after its done you get a printout of every angle on the car!
