I know what you're thinking - use the 16v fiat turbo coupe discs on you astra/whatever (i.e. 4 stud wheel) with some turbo or v6 calipers.

This is a very strong rumour that I've heard from several people (who could not say it was gospal). I even rang up Black Diamond and talked to their technical manager but he would not comment as "he could not recommend fitting a dics from one car to another as it COULD cause handling problems".

I purchased a set of drilled and grooved phosphate coated discs from PVD (£200) that they sell as a v6 size upgrade for cavs/astras etc. They looked exactly like a pair of Black Diamond discs but were sold to me in a plain box - nothing to identify their origins. PVD would not confirm/deny they were Black Diamond but did confirm they were from another make of car.

NOTE: This 'kit' includes a thing spacer ring that fills a gap between the centre of the hub and the centre of the disc - you need this to make sure the disc stays central.

If your looking at buy the fiat discs by themeselves consider that you still need to get the spacer ring made. BD list the fiat discs at £175 - PVD will sell you the discs + ring @ £200 so I think it works out OK. Obviously if you're looking at another manufactuer like EBC etc then it might work out even cheaper & so a beeter deal.

I too would like this confirmed one way or other as in the future when my discs are worn out I need to know what to replace them with & I don't want to restrict myself to going back to courtney/regal/pvd & payiong their prices.

Also note the V6 calipers are easier to find and cheaper to buy and are just the same as the turbo ones - although the pads are not interchangable.

According to the guy at my local larkspeed store (who owns a mk3!) he has spoken to the guys at Black Diamond several times regarding this matter and apparently they will fit.

he didnt say whether or not they would fit 16v calipers with a spacer kit attached, but he did say they would fit the V6 or Turbo calipers without problems.

If you're friendly with your local halfords parts guy or something. They have loads of technical catalogues behind the desk which should have all the dimensions for the disks. You should be able to cross reference the disks with that.

There were a few little perks from working for them.

Excellent, I've been wondering the same thing. Would mean a saving of about £100!

cheers guys my thinking is Fiat coupe disks from Halfords and caliper spacers from somewhere and my 16v calipers. I am only looking for std disks as my 16v ones have coped very well with track use so the bigger disks should be fine.

Looked into it a bit more today at work, (i got bored) here are some more sizes for ya:

    ..................Cavalier;...........Fiat Coupe;
    Diameter.....256mm..............284mm
    Max thick.......24mm................22mm
    Min thick........21mm................20mm
    Hub dia..........60mm................59mm
    Overall depth.41mm.............39.4mm

So as far as I see, they would sit 1.6mm closer to the wheel, may need 1mm taking off the hub hole, ad would start off 2mm thinner than the original ones. I cant say about PCD, as we dont have the Fiat ones in stock to compare against the Cav ones.

The part numbers for the Fiat ones are, AP Lockheed = BG2617, or Brembo = 09.5058.10.
Let us know how you get on.

PCD is 100, i asked about that

Si, why would it mean a saving off £100? the discs are still around £140 for black diamond ones, and the kit from hi spec is only £190 or wotever.

All it means is you can buy 'aftermarket' discs rather than PVD or Hi spec ones.

I did mention spacers in my last post, I want to avoid v6 or turbo calipers cos some folk reckon they dont fit under some 15's and I dont want 16's.

Dave, I'm talking about fitting V6 Calipers. then getting cheap-ish Fiat Coupe Disks instead of very expensive £150 ones from Courtenay or where ever they do em.

I thought i remembered this thread...
Been looking into this coz i need big brakes asap.

Found somewhere that does fiat coupe 16v turbo discs for £125 pair ( drilled). (not gonna pay rip off prices from certain companies who shall remain nameless)
    284mmx23mm.
Having some spacers made up to space my 16v calipers over them.

BUT- I read that fiat wheels have a pcd of 98.........
    So the discs wont fit??
Unless the info i got was wrong, and fiats DO have a pcd of 100 (in which case ill b getting a set of 20v turbo 16" wheels too lmao )

Anyone any gen on this so i can order the discs?

my hispec 285mm cost me 150, which includes brackets, and bolts. why is this a rip off ? I only see 25 quid difference, and your only getting disks and allot of guess work.

I wasnt referring to hi spec.
Certain companys that sell hi spec kits, only at a huge profit.........

I didnt think the 285mm kit was that cheap?? I thought it was £185? Maybe im wrong. hmmm

How much do hi spec charge for just the discs?
That was just a rough price for the discs-havent really had a good hunt yet.
Im gonna have a look about, coz i know i will b able to get them cheaper than that.

Just need the fitment gen really.
If hi spec dont charge much for just the discs then ill get them from them to save hassle.

you will have to modify the calliper bed and the calliper carrier, and remove the dust guard behind the original disks. if you imagine your calipers and brackets are shaped to suit the diametre of your disks. get a bigger disk and now the arc has got bigger, so the disks will rub the top and bottom edge of the callipers and carriers.

Calipers arent on the car at the mo anyway, so any mods not a problem.
Paid a fiver each being stripped and resealed at the mo (by someone who has a clue about them ).
Is it much hassle/take long to mod the calipers?
