Re: Rev counter needle jumping on start up. Why?

check your crank sensor

also remove the wurbo cover, under this there are two nuts/bolts holding the fuel rail onto the inlet manifold on the top of these are 3 earth wires one on one side and two n the other, make sure these are tight and good earths

all the engine sensors inc the crank sensort earth here and a loose earth caused havoc with my 4x4 system as the crank sensor wasnt earthing properly giving back rev signal to 4x4 ecu and at the same time rev needle going nuts and jumping around during cranking/starting

Yeah everytime it does it my 4x4 switches off. Would it also cause the car to miss underload?

Ok i looked at the earths and while i was playing with them the ring connector on the one by itself came off. Im just about to put one back on an i noticed that the lead has a centre core and then an outter sheilding like an aerial lead. Do they both have to be earthed?

Dont worry its sorted now. Rev counter works fine and the 4x4 light stays off. The car still misses though but cheers for the help guys.
