Overboost is the boost the car will run under heavy load for a very short period of time, ie for overtaking etc. the car will then level out (assuming throttle is still being applied) at the running boost level.
note - when atmospheric temp is low the boost figures can be a few psi higher than normal conditions
The power delivery for this engine is supposed to be like this:
A rush of power for (very) few seconds, that subsides into a lower level of power, but more sustainable at high revs.
Overboost, then constant boost.
It's meant to help you accelerate better during an overaking manouvre, without overstressing the engine for too long.
In practice it's a peak of power that subsides leaving you in the cold.
How would either of these be knackered Rob? The actuator doesn't look very old. Is there anyway of testing it?
This is what mine looks like:
Its exactly like this one, I took this image from JohnA's website. My threaded actuator rod is a lot more preloaded than this to acheive the boost levels I am getting now. I will see if I can get a pic to show.
The wastegate flap looked fine when I had the turbo off the car a few weeks ago.
Of course it does. That's why I avoided mentioning any figurers - just the relationship between the two levels.
