    Blast cabinets

Looking to buy one as i have a lot of old rally wheels that need re-furbing. Just wanting some advice on what to lookout for and what to avoid. I have not used one before so any info would be good.

There is a bloke around the corner who will do them for £10 a wheel, But i have 23 to do so it might be cheaper to just buy a medium sized cabinet and do it myself.

Sealey do some nice shot/sand blasting cabinets...ranging from £100 to very expensive...lol most engineering firms I know use Sealey..

you just need to also make sure you have a compressor that can handle it we have a big blasting cabinet bigger than any of the sealey ones and a 3 phase compressor with a good 200 litre tank to do a alloy wheel or something big takes quite a bit of time as you have to wait for the compressor to refill every once in a while

still easily cheaper than getting them done for £10 a wheel another option may be dipping them, as some wheel coatings are dead awkward to get off

Thanks. I did find a few specs on sealey ones which state 10CFM required, so will probably start looking for one this week. I rang around a few places with a view to acid dipping, but that too looks like around £10 per wheel. (lepsons wanted £15+vat)

Most are compomotives so i would imagine the factory finish will be as hard as nails.

It'l be handy for other stuff too as i sell a few parts which would probably make better money if they were blasted

its worth getting one craig i blast everything i can that goes on to my engines as it makes stuff like new, the little stuff is dead easy, may be best to nitromors them first then blast them to get the tricky bits, this is what i had to do the other day on a ducatti headlight binacle that was alloy the blaster was near on usless on the powercoating used nitromors to get the main off then blasted the last little bits as they were loose
