    Realistic options relocating for job

I have an interview next week, it seems hopeful as I fit the criteria as I applied on Wednesday, they offered a 'test' project, which I submitted today and got offered an interview.
It's just south of Coventry, and while I have no qualms about relocating at all (no family, etc.), I'm going to find it a bit difficult finding a flat or whatever for the first month, mainly due to finances
I have no problem staying at a B&B or even a hostel for a short period, or even in the back of a people carrier. My only possessions are a PC, mobile phone and clothes. Obviously, that's not going to be a problem.
Has anyone done this, how did you do it easily? I know it's about 150 miles away, but I've not actually packed up permanently.
One dog goes one way and the other goes the other.

Gumtree is quite good for short term renting, some places offer rent by the week. It will be a lot cheaper than a B&B.

Or some family run B&B's might do you a better deal on a longer stay

Nemesis lives near Coventry and he has a ****ing big house, ask him if you can rent a room? Just don't go in the cellar. Or answer the door. Or look on his computer. Or question the trail of Sherbet Dips from the nearest school playground that leads to his front door. But most of all definately do NOT bend down to try and pick up the two pound coin superglued to his doorstep.

They have announced redundancies at my work - bloody loads of them.

I should be safe TBH as it will be the bottom quartile that get binned (assuming logic is followed?) but if I get canned I plan to piss off to Dubai. Utterly silly money. About 9,000 AED a month will see you in a nice pad with a 911 turbo. That's about £1500/1600 a month which is peanuts.

I have spotted a job that I used to do, I could walk into and it pays 37,000 AED a month!

If you can't beat 'em, join 'em. A couple of years over there and you would be very well set up if you lived a prudent lifestyle and then came home.

An hour's drive wouldn't be worth getting bummed after seeing a bait 2 pound coin?

If you could move to Coventry why not try Dubai fella?

What is your trade? A sodding computer, phone and clothes are no reason to tie yourself to the UK!

I do the art on console games, it's seems to be restricted to western countries unfortunately. I offloaded most of my crap as I can't take it with me, what I have is coming with me.
I've been applying worldwide, esp in Asia, I can't take the cold weather.

    Yeah, many years ago.
I'm going to drive there every morning (until accomodation sorted), Google says 2 1/2 hours with traffic which will be a killer but the job is worth it (if I get it), an old work mate used to do from the same to Manchester for two years - heroic. Now find myself a barge to do it in.

Sorry, but if that is 2 1/2 hours each way then you're just being foolish not staying in a B&B. If you factor in 8 hours work, 8 hours sleep, 6 hours driving you have 2 hours of actual living a day. Not worth it IMO. Not to mention the money you will be spending on petrol and wear and tear on your vehicle. The closer you live to your job, the better it is for you in the long run. Just my 2p.

Re: Realistic options relocating for job

Can you tell I've not done this before? This will only be a couple of weeks though?
I used to travel 1 1/2 hours in the morning (half of that in stop/go traffic), it was mundane but it didn't overly destroy my soul.

I do an hour each way commute. You do get used to it, but when you actually stop and think that that's 10hrs per week spent commuting, more than an actual day at work, it does make you think.

I had thought it was him for a while. When he mentioned art for console games I was adamant it was him as I remember his awesome Astra GSI pictures he did which looked like photographs.

Besides who are you with all these posts? The only person I can think of who has spent years located in Wrectums is Stu_CDX? Is that you?

I had to work at another site for a bit and I loved having to commute for over an hour each day, me my radio and driving was awesome. The fact they were paying me stupid over-time rate for my travelling time was just an added bonus.

I have done it a couple of times. You should find a crap hotel this time of year for around £15 a night. Far cheaper than fuel until you find somewhere permanent.

Plus you have to consider that your first week in a new job you are going to look like a right twat if you cant stay away.

Have a look on SPARE ROOM for flatshare, house share, flat share & rooms for rent for an idea of prices.
Once you've started work pick up a local paper, you'll usually find ads for rooms in there.

Re: Realistic options relocating for job

I had the int today, and it took nearly 3 hours getting there and close to six hours getting back, and that was missing half the rush hour. Traffic is monstrous on the M6. £30 in diesel as well. That'd be £150, I'd have to do the sensible option and just get a really cheap hotel.
Absolutely shattered from that, I couldn't do that everyday, I'd have to get up at 5 and get in at 10 at least everynight!!
