Just a tip for anyone with the AA

When your renewal comes round, ring up their customer services and choose the option "thinking about leaving the AA".

I told them (truthfully) I wasn't impressed having to wait 9 hours for the last breakdown patrol I requested, who told me he couldn't tow my Calibra 4x4 on a dolly because it's 4WD (he didn't understand what a viscous coupling is )

Long story short my renewal for roadside cover with relay recovery is down from £103.74 to £65

You probably had a genuine case as they would know that you broke down and had called for assistance, and had to wait 9 hrs! but if I tried that they might not offer me any discount as I have not had any opportunity to call them out, of course every penny that one can save now a days makes sense in this credit crunch age

BTW, I knew what a viscouse cou[pling was long before Calibra's arrived, my Humber Sceptre had a viscouse coupling radiator fan bolted on to the water pump pulley flange, once I bought an aftermarket water pump and the flange which is interference fitted flew off doing about 70 on motoraway! with debri falling behind! and it went flying through the rad along with the fan and the viscouse coupling!

went back to the spares shop to complain as to how bad the aftermarket pump was he replaced it free of charge, and i had to buy a new viscouse cou[pling and a new rad, and a fan, and the same thing happned immediately around 70 on a motorway.

After that I put in a heavy claim against the manufacturer, but the process was taking so long that I gave up! basteds.

What a let down. I thought the message would simply read 'Hope you don't break down in London'.

    I broke down:

    a) In London,
    b) On New Year's Eve,
    c) At 11.45pm,
    d) In a 10 mile tail back.

    Beat that.
One dog goes one way and the other goes the other.
And this guy's saying, "Whaddya want from me?"

I'll beat off to most things on the net but that's not really doing it for me.

When I was with the AA we used to go through the same song and dance every year; they'd send through the renewal which was about twice what I had paid the previous year......I ring up to complain and they drop it by about £50. This went on every year for about 5 years, until I thought, "they really are taking the piss now". So I went and joined one of the little independent recovery guys for £30 per year for a more comprehensive package.

This year is first for about 10 years Elephant haven't tried that, used to annoy me!

Similar story with Sky - mate at work told them couldn't afford it anymore, so he now has his top package for price of smallest.
Was worried they'd just say "Ok bye" then he'd have been screwed lol.

The AA are excellent. When I first got the Turbo and it shat it's, I pointed out that it was a) f**ded and b) couldn't be towed but they sent a wee man in a Transporter van anyways. Then he agreed it was a) f**ded and b) couldn't be towed and then several hours later, a flatbed arrived. I got upset at them, ranted a bit and so now have notes on my files basically saying "If he says it's f**ded, it's f**ded" and "If he says it can't be towed, it can't be towed"

They've been brilliant ever since and attended the 893 breakdowns the Cavalier has suffered since 2002 without an issue.
