Stand very nicely if they only want half back....
Just suggest a repayment duration that suits you.

There will probably be something in your contract of employment to say that they can take it back.

Do you only have to give back 50%?

Is it a large amount? If so I'd be asking them to take it off in instalments. Please the "it's close to Christmas / I need to pay for hookers and coke" card. I'm sure they will understand.

They've got you by the scrotum really - they can just deduct it from your next month's wages....

Re: being over paid, where do i stand??

next months wage! lmaolmaolmao, sorry chap but im afraid its a bit more of a problem than a months wages i dont want to say how much but its a ****ing large amount,

they have accepted it is there mistake etc and have agreed to take 50% of what was over paid

but my boss knew how much i was getting paid and never said there was an issue, the other 2 guys on my shift were being paid the same accordingly (they are in the same boat) so why does it take them months to say hang on your shift is being over paid etc

its a bit of a ball buster to say the least but it is what it is

Did you not know you were getting too much??
You've been given a load of money for free if it's a large amount, and only have to give half back; seems a good thing to me.

i get what your saying, i did question my pay to start with but like i said my boss asked me what i was getting i told him he never said a word and this was at the start so to me him not saying any thing means it is all good,

i havent been given a load of money for free i work 12 hours a day 6pm-6am and work like ****, the work we are doing and the pay we were getting is what we would have said was accurate

Just checking your contract would have prevented this.
Sounds like boss has taken advantage of you lot being gullible and got more work out of you under false pretences.

Re: being over paid, where do i stand??

Have you got anything stating what your rate of pay was going to be?
If the boss knew what that rate was why is he suddenly questioning it?
Is it just you or are there others who have been overpaid?
Sounds to me like the boss isn't making as much out of the job as he had hoped and is clawing the shortfall out of your pocket.

Find the contract and get down the CAB as nova4x4 suggests - if your contract sets out your rate I don't see how your boss can question it.
    Good luck.

Your company has a right to ask for all of the money back if they overpaid you.

I'm just a little curious to as how it could have ended up so much money with both your company and even more so you not noticing you had been overpaid by such a significant amount?

Surely you know your salary and any overtime payments?

    Yeh, as per the above.

    They made an error.

You should know what you should be expecting wage wise.

Re: being over paid, where do i stand??

Moral of the story definately is to make sure you know what you are meant to be getting paid.

Can actually sympathise with you though if you have been getting 5K a month instead of 2K or something and you've thought that was you wages, I bet its a massive blow to suddenly realise that it isnt and that worse still you only going to get half of the 2K for the next year till its all paid back or whatever.

    Way too Fast :-/

Re: being over paid, where do i stand??

Cant see the prob tbh, If you've been over paid over a period of time and they only want 50% of it back snap their hand off ffs! Agree the terms and away you go. If they want the lot back unlucky. You got summat for nowt and your worried? If it's that big an amount you should have said something earlier fo' sure. The ball is still in your court though just agree to specific payback terms.

Re: being over paid, where do i stand??

Wait a min, yes at the start I thought I was being over paid, my boss asked what I was getting I told him and he was like "not bad" and then even joked at s later date about wages so "I thought I must be wrong THEY MUST BE PAYING ME CORRECTLY" as it stands it's over 6k, as for moaning you bite me!, as I said to start with I thought it wasn't rite but after my boss knowing what we were getting paid and cutting over time on the day shift to keep us doing nights shift defo made me think my wage was correct

When you say 'boss' who do you mean?

    Managing Director?

    Supervisor?
