Was it a case of a night allowance meaning you should get paid 150% of your wages, but instead of that you got 150% added rather than mulitplied, ie so you ended up with 250% instead of 150% or something like that?
If so, can easily see how if your boss agreed it was correct you would assume that you just were in a lucky position with how much extra you got, relatively easy mistake to make in those sort of circumstances.

I'd personally keep a written log of everything as far back as you can account for just so you've got some ammo to throw at the tax office. It seriously ****s things up mate and I feel for you!
