I thought if you removed a clamp you have to hand it in at a police station? I would have done it just to piss them off.
Although, TBH you are parked on what looks like a double yellow (too much yellow paint for a single) and on a kerb so you can't really moan too much.
You only have to do a very few things right in your life so long as you don't do too many things wrong.

the clamper should have asked for your address if he saw you removing the clamp as its now a civil matter rather than anything to do with the police.
i know this as my son was owed money from his ex boss and he had keys to his unit,so took stuff to the amount he was owed .and his ex boss called the police claiming we broke in so gave the police the key and they could do nothing about it.
As long as you got a clear sticker on your Car stating anyone attempting to clamp this vehicle shall do so at his or her risk and if found to be clamped the vehicle will be towed away and the clamp disposed off. Not a **** they or anyone can do.
This is obviously not official, but you clearly stated the facts that if an attempt to clamp the car it will resultinits being towed away along with the car, and the clamp disposed off. this cuts iron with iron.
I once got clamped in central London, whilst on an emergency call out, left a note in the window (used to be Fire Alarm Engineer and had to use my car to deliver essential safety equipment) it was clamped out side the rear delivery doors of that building, so I had no choice but to go and pay the charges, 25 years ago, it had to be paid at a certain clamping office and there were no mobile phones then.
After making the payment, i waited for the City Of Westminister's clamping unit to come and remove it, whe an hour later the guy turned up I pointed to him that he had damaged the front wing arch of my car, to which he saw and acknowledged and said in this case he would not be able to remove it, as he will need to get someone from his team to come up with a camera and acknowledge the damage independently so that i could make a claim.
The4 damage was little scrape on the arch, I wasn't really worried too much about it, but i wanted them to know and acknowledge it so that i could claim equal amount to what i paid them in the first place, around £40 then.
After waiting for over 3 hours, I decided enough was enough, so got hold of two thick wires, which I got from some sparkies working on that building, I made a thick bunch of them to pass as many amps as possible through the clamp, and tried to melt the clamp off my car, on looker cheered me ! but ****in battery went flat soon after, just then the wankeres turned up, and saw me attempting to remove the clamp by trying to melt the ****er off, when they accused me of an attempt, I said don't be ****in rediculous, whilst I had been waiting for them for well over 3 hours I had run my battery flat and was trying to jump start it when the jump leads struck the clamp! *****!
Not saying anyone should break the Law, but there is no reason to clamp anyone's car in just two minutes of waiting! I would not hesitate removing it myself and ****in throwing it off thisn planet never to be found ever again.

i've removed one once (although it wasnt my car) it was exactly the same chain style clamp. we hacksawed the chain off, drove with it in the boot 5 miles down the road and binned the clamp in some bushes.
however, the clamp company had polariods of the vehicle with the clamp fitted, plus the details and car reg so still persisted with the release fee, threatening legal action, plus damages to the clamp.
i'd say if you didnt damage the clamp (sounds like you didnt) and the company have no idea what your car is, or proof they clamped it, forget about it.
A building contractor's transit van was clamped, because he had run out of permit to park whilst doing his job, I helped him remove it by deflating his tyre, had to remove the valve completely to allow every bit of the air out. The upper part of the clamp that was holding the clamp around the top part of the tyre then slid out as the height of the van lowered when deflated, we had to use a small leaver to press down on the top part of the tyre by a few inches and the clamp was swiftly removed and disposed off neatly by the builder. I only provided verbal instructions whilst the builder himself carried out the task, he was totally furious ashis permit was only 1/2hr overdue.
In another incident, another builder who came to see me regarding a small job, he bought a parking pay & Display ticket for an hour, which costs 50p/hr about 10 years ago, he spent just over an hour with me and we forgot that his permit had expired for about 10 mins, as he went back to his car (which incidently was a Calibra) he was given a PCN, he was equally furious, his car was parked about 20 houses down the road, he decided to come back to my house to tell me what had happened just by overstaying for 10mins, and he thyen went back to his car only to see it being clamped!
He was even more furious, and ouraged, he wanted to knock the **** out of the overzealous clamping team run by our local council, only that he did some contract work for the council that he stopped short of doing something really nasty to the clampers.

Im just happy i live in scotland where clamping is outlawed and any person caught clamping can legally be hit over the head with a glass irn bru bottle and the clamp inserted into the clampers anal cavity without the aid of lubrication.
HAS FINISHED MGS4 19 TIMES, INCREDIBLE
Might aswell add my few experience's with clampers.
The first one was on my nova a few years back, Private clamp which the guy was very smug about so i got a mate down and we cut it off with a petrol disc cutter, threw it in the boot and left. A few weeks later i got nicked and had the choice either produce the damaged clamp and get charged with criminal damage or tell them the truth, which is i threw it in the river, and get charged with theft.
Second one was a DVLA clamp for not taxing my legacy, Even know it was only about three days (still guilty though).
I tried to sort it out over the phone but the bitch was having none of it and said i had to catch a train to bristol to show her my new tax disc before it would be released. So this time i took it off with care and took it back to their offices. Being sure to take lots of photo's, so as to prove it wasnt damaged or stolen.
Never heard a peep back from them, over 2 year's ago.
Just for the record, i dont think its big, or clever. Just convenient.

Quote from the above:
A Kent Police spokeswoman said no complaint about wheel clamps being cut off had been made by either a clamping firm or a member of the public.
A spokeswoman for the Metropolitan Police said they could not investigate unless a crime was reported.
I think it is a horrendous Crime putting the thing on in the first place! BLOODY CLAMPERS, Good on Superhero!

I once nearly got tempted to deflate the tyres of a clamping van when it was trying to clamp someone's car.
On another occasion, a road was partially blocked by a tow truck trying to lift off clamped cars, causing far more obstruction to traffic flow than the clamped cars, who were simply parked along a single yellow line causing absoultely no problems to normal traffic flow.
we should campagne to get most of the yellow lines lifted off our roads, when they need not be there, but greedy councils do it for simply irratating motorists and to make money out already stretched motorists.
