    Radio Controlled cars

So heres the picture, at the pub on Sunday and as we are leaving i happen to notice a rc car track just over the back. On it are a couple of cars whizzing around at quite a rate of knots.

Abi, my daughter was mesmorized by them. I've always had a thing for them but not enough to warrent spending big bucks on one. That said, i quite fancy the idea now.

I know nothing between the differences of Nitro and what not but would like something low to mid budget, with half decent range, proper car looking and relatively rapid.

Where should i look and what should i look for?

Hell yeah! The track is just behind the car park of the Plough. A bit of a mess but nothing a quick "kick to the side" doesn't seem to cure lmao

    Re: Radio Controlled cars

Been there, have family in Netley so have used the track at the pub a few times for some cheeky testing I don't think an organised club runs the venue anymore.

If you want Nitro, then the HPI Nitro 3 is very good value for money, very easy to get spare parts for, so a perfect choice. Comes ready built and painted, so just buy some nitro fuel, some AA batteries and run the engine in for a few tanks before getting out and using it. HPI RC Nitro Models, Nitro Radio Controlled Cars, RC Nitro Models RC Models, Radio Controlled Model Cars

For electric, about half that price will get you a decent starter setup from Maverick that just needs some AA's Maverick Strada TC Evo RTR Touring Car MV12604

Or spend a bit more on this HPI Sprint 2 Sport 2.4GHz BMW M3 GT2 RTR 106144

All of them can take different bodies (electric ones are 190mm wide, nitro ones are 200mm wide), and you can fit softer grippier tyres, plastic drift tyres, all sorts of option aftermarket parts, better steering servos etc.

Any Q's, just ask, been doing RC for 14 years and help run a massive UK forum.

Whats the big difference between electric and Nitro that justifies the cost difference?

    Re: Radio Controlled cars

We have got a couple of 4x4 touring cars .
Have spent some money on them converting them to brushless and running Lipo batteries now as soon as they arrive .
If you are going electric then get brushless and Lipos , read up on lipos first though .
Join msuk forum and rcuniverse , rctech .... and other sites for info .
Need to know full addresses let me know .

Will try to put some pics up tonight or tomorrow of our cars .

Would advise 4x4 for any touring car realy , we started on 2wd cars but when we wanted more power you will find it harder to control and put the power down .

Have got a Nitro but for shear plug and play electric wins .

Looks like Gaz knows his stuff , I know a bit so can help hopefully .
I canny invest in ya and for that reason , I'm oot .

One as an engine, the other an electric motor.

tbh you might want to think of some king of buggy then you have the option of going off road rather than being stuck to a flat car park/track.

    Re: Radio Controlled cars

As far as cost is concerned the there isnt much in it now, Not the same as when I was a boy, Electric is more user friendly, Nitro takes a while to get used to the operation but can be a bit more tempramental than electric, (its an engine) but if you go electric you want plenty of spare batteries, they dont last long! 5Mins per battery. If you've never done it before I'd go electric

    Re: Radio Controlled cars

In my experience wanting one is great..... owning one is crap.

Although thats just me, i have no co-ordination and end up smashing them into the kerb.

For a cheap, electric laugh.... get a "Mardave mini stock"

You will find the faster it goes the more tyres you need

Tyres can work out very expensive .... can eat a set of tyres in not much time at all .

    Re: Radio Controlled cars

I can certainly see the sense of a buggy over a car but i want one that looks nice imho and buggies dont do it for me

To be fair its a bit of a pipe dream as the sense of it all at present really isn't there. I dont have much time and Abi isn't even four yet lmao. If one came up at the right price then id probably go for it but theres no rush.

thanks for all the advise though.

    Re: Radio Controlled cars

Don't get a nitro car, that is all! I have 3 cars in total, a HPI Bullet 3.0 and Kyosho Pureten, both nitro and a Tamiya TL01 which is electric. My Tamiya is in pieces and has been for quite some time and both the nitro cars are (well were) in daily service. Now the Kyosho has a knackered clutch and the HPI's main drive gear is stripped. The Tamiya just got stripped for upgrade purposes and is becoming very long term lmao, it was by far more reliable, just as long as you spend a decent amount to get good batteries (3000mA min) for a good amount of run time.

Don't get me wrong, the nitro cars are great fun but I regret buying both of mine. I could have had a brushless electric one instead which is another story.......

    Re: Radio Controlled cars

You will find the place you can run a touring car on is limited .... as mentioned already , getting power down when you modify it is much easier with a buggy too , due to bigger and wider wheels .
Don't write off the buggy yet .

There's a lot of truth in this, even though touring cars are waaaaaay cooler, especially when you can find old ICS Mondeo/Volvo 850 bodies for them, buggies (or trucks in my case) are awesome.

    Clicky

I have the red one (Bullet MT), it's awesome when it works. It just about goes anywhere and when you hit a kerb it goes up it instead if into a million pieces lmao.
