How to start a website from scratch?

I've got a few decent ideas for a website however I am absolutely computer illiterate. I struggle logging In on here.
Anyway any help on the subject will be massively appreciated. Just to give you rough idea it will be similar sort of site to piston heads with news, reviews, gallery, for sale, blag and blog, etc.

Try blogspot, it's probably all you need.
Anything further from that and you'll have to start learning HTML (language) or at least Dreamweaver (software). If you really want to do something decent you'll have to put in some hard work.

You could look at using Joomla, or Wordpress - Both provide you with templates to work from, downloaded themes etc.... and you can add widgets for things like galleries, forums, and classifieds. You can look at demo sites on both the Wordpress and Joomla sites to get and idea of what they can do. Neither will be quick to just throw on line though, you will need to put a bit of time in to it - the good news though, no need to learn scripting for either application.

i would say wordpress, it's pretty much out the box with regard to getting it running and i think you could probably get a good chunk of the basic functionality with plugins/addons without having to code it yourself. of course if you end up with the volume etc of pistonheads then custom is really the only way to go.
