This was before Facebook, etc. so it's not like I could just type in the fairly common name in there and browse through the millions of names that appear. I've lost phone numbers etc., the only thing I know is the address but might be a bit dodgy just turning up 'Hi!!'.

If you know the address, the cahnces are he or she is registered for voting, so check electorial register from the library, its what i think i would do in the given circumstences, but then again the person may have moved/ married etc, and name changed.

yeah you can narrow down facebook searches by school/uni/town etc, assuming they're on there. If they're not, time to employ a private dick.
