    Here we are again...new car!!

    Vectras gone..replaced by a 2001 Astra estate...54,000 nice miles..original cambelt done on Friday..driving home i notice the temp gauge sitting very cold but hot air still out of the heater....all was fine on the test drive before buying..oh well!! now it appears this is a common problem????

    If its the X16SZR engine then they do tend to run cool - you'll also always find mayo under the oil filler cap.

    Often the thermostats stick on them but can only be replaced by removing the cambelt .......

    Thats what i read. On the trip back from london with it the temp sat perfectly. No mayo to be found anywhere.

    My Astra Coupe ran with the temp bang on centre round the doors but as soon as you got passed 60mph it dropped right back down, I tried changing a few thermostats but the was little difference, the heating was still really warm though.

    As you said, heating is hot and it gets hot quickly. Sitting at 70/80 on A11 when i picked it up it was fine....Gauge sender unit first i think!
