Evening all, ok my car tax runs out on the 31/08/10 and i get paid on the 3/09/10..... question is do i have to SORN it for the 2 days that i wont have tax? (it will be in a garage off road for the 2 days)?? do i get any "grace"? And if i do SORN it on the 31st and pay for it on the 3rd september will i lose a month or just the 2 days???

you get 5 days grace or something like that iirc...you shouldnt have any problems for 3 days TBH, just dont drive it anywhere and keep it on private property

if late registration want to they will do you for not declaring SORN for the days it's untaxed regardless, THEY told me this.

when it comes to TAX there is NO grace period AT ALL, treat them like the Nazis they are cos that's how they will treat you.

A car always needs to be taxed or SORN'd at all times

You've had 6 or 12 months notice that the tax was running out so there's no excuse really that you aren't taxing it by the end of the month

you probably didn't want to do that as the DVLA are now asking that all SORN cars must send in the V5 log book for the new RED ones to be issued to them.

    I agree

But I'm just giving an example that aslong as the car isn't used he won't have a problem for 3 days

I think I left mine over a week, then did it on line, and they didn't say anything, but I thought it was up to 14 days.

    Re: Car Tax "grace"

I've left mine for a few weeks too, the woman at the post office told me they would be in conact, also a few years ago I rang the late liscence people and they said there is no grace at all.

I suppose as long as the rate of duty gets paid then they wont persue you.

    Re: Car Tax "grace"

Just had a look on the DVLA site, and it says you don't get a grace period, even if you taxs runs out on the Sunday, it needs to be done the Saturday. Gyts!

    Re: Car Tax "grace"

One of my cars TAX is out tomorrow. I am off on Hol on the 1st of Sept for 3 weeks. I've not bothered SORNing the car, i've just TAX'd it so it's out of the way. Ok it is only £30 for the year, but still.

Other 2 cars, I have booked MOT'S for the day after I get back. MOT isn't as tight as TAX.

Some cars have no tax and I do not mean the ones that got a tax free status after 25 years (now abolished as of at least 10 years ago!).

    I will guess at a Pug 107 1.0!
