Forgot to SORN the car, what happens next?

i bought the corsa in January 2009 the guy i bought it off said he had SORN the car less than a month previous, all good.
some time has gone past and because the corsa is my project car and is in the garage in bits, TAX/SORN is the last thing on my mind but today i saw a tax reminder form at work and it got me thinking
' i haven't had one of those for the corsa and ive had it over 12 months'

    OOOOPS

so when i got home i went on the DVLA website and SORN the corsa online
NOW according to the DVLA ive commited an offence and they will be intouch like im some sort of criminal

    they didnt send a reminder!

when i looked into it for not declairing the corsa as SORN i will now recieve a fine

    what a load of CRAP!

has anybody else fallen into the DVLA's trap of them not sending a reminder and us ending up getting shafted with a fine

i had exactly the same with the nova, had it for almost 12 months and never even thought of it, when i checked dvla website one day it said tax had been up for nearly 2 years, i had the same message but never heard any more of it afterwards.

I recieved a snotty letter from them regarding a car i had had disposed of but they lost the sodding letter i sent them telling them so. It cost me the grand sum of 5 months worth of tax as it was 5 months past taxation time.
Please ensure all events queries are pm'd in my direction. Please be patient and i will get back to you very soon.

It's a joke, you SORN your car forget to Sorn it again and they send out fines, you forget to tax your car nothing, at least that's what I suspect as there is a car near me hasn't moved for 4 months and tax ran out at end of April, going to get it's number soon and report it, then on Monday phone council and tell them I think it's been dumped.

The parking round my way is terrible as it is without losing another space.

JUst to add to what others have said... i've had the same issue a few times, best option is to call DVLA on the standard numbers, they log the fact that you called and explain the problem. They'll then sorn it and job done

had loads of 'hick-ups' with loads of cars including a H reg jetta that by the time i sold it had 14 owners! 5 in as many months, between me and me mates... lol
