    Unhappy police impound....

as some of you already know i had my car impouded for getting towed with no insurance, i have to get all relivent documents into police station before thursday to get the car back, wondering if anyone knows the documents which i would need to pick it up, obv i know i need to take log book, and both parts of my license, mot test certificate, but heres where it gets tricky, the car is not taxed so i have rang insurance company today and they say 5 working days for cover note so i could then tax the car and get the det to station, i will not make the deadline... i have rang police station and they have told me i can get a recovery truck to pick it up as long as the driver is fully legal and insured to carry the car, they dont know if it would be acceptable to take my det and the drivers cover note and license as the car has no road tax, technically it will not touch the road, anyone know or have been in this situation as i cannot find out if they will accept them untill office opens on monday....
If i cant impress you with my knowledge, ill confuse you with my bulls**t!

If you tax the car online, then thats all you need to worry about. Just give them the reference number and it will be legit. you need proof of insurance, mot and tax.

Get the insurers to email you a covernote. Print it in colour and use it to tax your car.

Come on he's in enough crap as it is?

Just call round and get a recovery truck. They cannot argue about that. After all, how did they get it there?

This isn't The Fast and The Furious or Gone in 60 sec. In the real world you cant do that.

You'll need the v5 to say you own the car, id, insurance cef.

he walked into the yard, and drove off using the spare key. not much fast and furious or gone in 60 seconds about it, as he didnt blow the welds on his manifold with eleventy million PSI of boost, thus causing the floor to fall out, and he didnt wheelie a muscle car into a train or throw a brick through a shop window.

it was also wrongly towed away as it was fully legal at the time, twas the polices mistake.

clearyvan: i wasnt actually suggesting you do it, not worth the hassle as you say, just reminded me of it lol. how you get it all sorted

    Re: police impound....

Right, spoke to the uniforms and the car can be picked up on a flat bed, however, valid insurance details for the regesteredkeeper of seised vehicle must also be provided, in which case the flat bed would only be beneficial to avoid paying the tax, seems to me if I'm insuring it then Mays well tax it and drive it home...

You can buy insurance, get the car back then cancel your insurance within 14 days (distance selling regulations). You'll get charged a nominal fee.

    Re: police impound....

I once had my car imponded as I totally forgot to renew its road tax, so I was asked to renew the road tax and by producing it along with the v5 doccument and paying the impounding charges, I could drive it away, but the snag was I wasn't aware that my MOT had also expired!! Damn, so that meant I couldn't get the road tax without the MOT

But they were reasonable about it, so asked me to leave a deposit of £180 odd quid, (I can't remember exactly how much) but this allowed me to make pre-arrangenments with an MOT garage and I was then allowed to drive away after paying bthe deposit and thenimpounding charges (£80.00 for impounding) plus a further fine of £50 odd quid by the DVLA for not having a car insured and having genuinely forgotton and with no intent to not tax it)

In the end, the car passed the MOT, got to the post office and got the road tax, went back to the impound and got my deposit back! what a fiasco!!
if it wasn't for the earth , there wouldn't be any universe, mother earth gave birth to all the creation! and without the earths gravitational pull, the sun and the moon would have long gone adrift!

Are you actually old enough to drive, only you type like an eleven year old? In case you weren't aware you do NOT have to pay any money to use all the letters on your keyboard when on Migweb.

Back to the matter in hand the longer you leave these things the more it costs in charges. Appreciate you seem to have sorted it now but if it does happen again it's best to act within the first 24/48 hours. Or just get insurance/tax in the first place.

My insurance company have often emailed my certificate to me, they then told me to print it off using a Colour LaserJet printer...the same as they do! One original document ready to go!
