    why dont we have avatars?

not a tech question more a why dont we?

    Can we influence board managament?

Member of several forums, all allow avatars (including Mk3oc) dont have any paid membership for any.

So what gives, is it a priviidge to have an Avatar then?

Why not allow an Avatar after so many posts.

I'm sure 'd get something extra for being a member, but I prefer to help and be helped,so to speak.

    So what does everyone think

or will I just have to go away, (just like my thread on why we dont do REP's/Thanks on this board)

Re: why dont we have avatars?

it doesnt matter, however from one things ive found, if I wanna see where where my last thread is I can scroll down quickly and I can then pick out my Avatar quickly.

however, I noticed your TinTin avatar, very nice, add much value to your surfing experience then

well I have an old Nokia, 3210i, has a personalised ring tone <song>, and a wallpaper of me in my homer simpson tee shirt, and..... thats about it

anyway, just thought i'd ask,as it dont seem that much to ask for....

Re: why dont we have avatars?

    I totaly agree !

I think that we should have avatars or bannars, i have been on different forums and migweb.com (although it is a GREAT site) seems miles behind others, for example other sites have the whole 'rep' thing, where you can build you rep up. And the avatars are a good idea i think... or a bannar or somthing just to express.

But meh.... it wont be done so

Re: why dont we have avatars?

Avatars and banners just make a site garish ans slow to load and increase server costs, they may go down well on toy-town sites, but with a user-base as large as MIG then it is really a non-starter to make it so everyones user graphics bandwidth is 1000 times greater than that of their post.

The day MIG has banners in signatures is the day I log off for good. It makes a site such a fcuking pain in the ass to read.

Just log onto a site like Retro Rides and try reading a thread without the signatures distracting you from the content.

At the end of the day this is a car site not facebook!

The images are not hosted on this site though, they are all linked, so unless you go to the thread then they won't slow you down. I am surprised the people who view threads like that can move their mouse though, either that or they have developed very strong wrists.....

Re: why dont we have avatars?

Because if everyone has an Avatar, then it is no longer a member privilege.

MIGWeb has opted not to allow signature images as they significanlty slow down page load time, look messy and make post harder to read through. We did had a reputation system, but it was abused, so we turned it off.

PS, Avatars are hosted on this site.
Why is the time of day with the slowest traffic called rush hour?

Re: why dont we have avatars?

    Trev,

Whilst I agree with banners can be a bit mad. And not too much of a fan of banners. You can turn off banners/avators/signatures in the settings (certainly on the other sites I've seen) so should not slow down or de-enhance your experience.

"user-base as large as MIG" lmao lmao
doode, compared to some sites Mig is defo small sized,
take a look at "Rennlist/Pelican parts" they are huge sites, about 10 times the size of this one. Nothing slow about them.

Re: why dont we have avatars?

    Don't get me wrong Mike,
MIG is one of my fav sites and not trying to knock ya baby

Signatures yes, can slow down things, but there are options to turn it off.
I dont have problems with any of the 50 or so sites I visit with sigs at all.
MK3oc does have a rep system and I've never seen any probs there.
Rep system is really just tongue in cheek and not really anything to be too
cuaght up in, but it is nice, when you post a reply that you get a thank you
or its nice to thank people who are helpfull.

Oh yesh, membership has its privilidges
Fo sure dogg, I has me Amex card, me fly buissiness class (when I can) cos I likes to eats the cheezits i walk past the dumbasses poor working class folk as they tugg there forlocks at me.

reclning seats and the sweet chicko's who tucks me in and bring me a glass of spumanti
oh yeash, dats de live dogg, living large in mofo way.lmaolmaolmao

So, as you see I do appreciate your point, so other than avators, if I was to upgrade, what do I get from Mig den,
