Yeah I found running on a treadmill completely different to running on the road (well, the pavement lol)...different as in a lot easier!!

I run around the Cams Estate...its a really nice run, pretty much every terrain you can think of and great views to keep you occupied. Maybe you could do 2 laps...lol

Since Portsmouth is all flat, training for the Run is pretty straight forward. Bound to break myself in the run up to it or something still though lmao

It's the calories in the ethanol that make makes wine/beer/spirits bad.

1 gram of alcohol contains 7 calories.

    re: Losing a beer belly

im 5ft 11, 11stone, i was just over 12 about 6 months ago but was ripped lol and eating about 4000 calories a day, spent far too much time down the gym and i very rarely drink, sadly i didnt drink enough water and the over working at the gym caused a little swelling with said important parts in my head, bee out the gym for nearly 2 months now and the muscle dropped off RAPIDLY. Had to cut back on the suppliments, drink a **** load more water and take it easy for a few months whilst i pay £50 a month for the fooking gym!if you wanna train hard you gotta stick to it and go all out, if you want tight abs and to be fitter, cardio and get a £7.99 eco cruncher from argos mate, they hammer your abs 7-8 times harder per rep, gives good definition and tone to do some crunch holds. Also beer is known to cause cellulite, which is the jellyness in your belly, this can be filtered out by your body if you up your intake of water. never let your piss get yellow :P.

    re: Losing a beer belly

im back in the gym this week after about 8weeks off as been mega busy with jobs and extra shifts. but i feel so small now ive not done any weight training it takes the piss. so im going to be racking the weights up, getting out on bike and eat a ton of food(proper food, not junk ****e) and back on suppliments get up to 15/15.5 stone over next few months i hope.

clembutrol(spl) is good for fat loss, raises ur body temp slightly, but you can loose a lot of weight, but do need to exercise not just sit on arse waiting fo rit to fall off lmao

    re: Losing a beer belly

haha yeah i struggled to put weight on, so a pretty intense but spaced out regime for me with suppliments and tons of carbs, also 1 massive calory treat a day i.e. a maccys, a couple of boost bars, and extra weight gainer or something like that. put on a stone in 3 months and lost more than that in 2!! piss take lol. need to get back on it but still a little worried about my head :S. As for beer belly, honestly drinking alot more water whilst excercising makes a huge difference. You body can deal with everything better if its diluted.

    !peace!

    re: Losing a beer belly

    I am 14 stone 10.5

3 weeks ago I was 15 stone 9 and decided that messing around with plastic windows in trackday cars etc is pretty pointless if you are carrying 15KG more than you need to round your gut so figured I would lose some.

Thats with relatively minimal exercise, few miles walking a day as all Ive done and stuff like legging it flat out up the long set of steps out of bank tube station (gets some right funny looks, im just waiting for someone to yell "run fat boy run" at me as I really am full on sprinting, and swerving through everyone coming on their way down, lol), just by cutting out all the crap from my diet and replacing it with fruit instead so that I keep my total intake to about half what it was.

So fairly quick weight loss is pretty doable without much exercise IMHO, obivously the fatter you are to begin with the easier it is to lose, im sure in the next 3 weeks I wont lose even half as much as all the real excess is now gone.

Im in the luicky position that I have always stayed in moderately good shape under the lard, ie ive never actually been badly unfit even though Ive been overweight, so a few miles walking a day and bursts of sprinting to keep the heartrate up isnt a problem to me like it might be to some fat people.

My target weight is 14 stone, any less than that wouldnt suit me as ive got a fair bit of muscle mass and I dont want to look skinny

    re: Losing a beer belly

Took to the streets tonight as opposed to the earlier treadmill, 6.85 miles at an average speed of 7.14mph (I love my N95 lmao)

So despite street running being more difficult than in the gym, I managed a greater distance in a lesser amount of time, not bad.

    Nice one Rusty.

I went along to my mates gym last night as a guest. Did about 25mins on the treadmill with a 1% incline. Didn't set any records but was pleased considering I went for a run the night before around the Cams estate (3 miles). I also did some weights whilst there and I am REALLY feeling it this morning lol

    re: Losing a beer belly

im a member of the uk muscle forum and there is a whole section to losing fat, give it a google. as 4 losing fat try fasted cordio (a black coffee may be helpful and also raises metabolism). a 45 min fast walk first thing in the morning is all thats needed, more incline the better! heart rate is the key, u have to keep it at a certain rate to burn fat any faster and you'll be fitness training rather than burning fat. also training with weights will also help lose fat. people with a bigger muscle mass need a bigger calorie intake to maintain there mass therefore they will find it easier to burn fat.

cut out all sugary carbs (exept fruit). sugars are best eat straight after a work-out with protein to replace depleted glysogen stores.

dont eat any carbs after six pm (could get away with green veg).

as little sodium as possible as salt makes u hold onto water, also drink as much water as possible as if the body is getting plenty it wont have any need to keep hold of any.

eat fat to loose fat. fish oils are very good for heart healthand another number of things. i take 12×1g capsules a day. other good sources of fat are egg yolks oils like flax and olive and nuts and seeds.

like chip says the more fat u have to start with the easier u will find it but as u start getting to the 12-15%bf range things will start to get a lot tougher. then u have to start maybe looking into things like a keto diet and carbs cycling along with supplements (legal & illegal) to get down to 3-4%bf that some bodybuilders compete at. hope this helps abit. rgds james

    re: Losing a beer belly

I've gone from 17.9 to 15.12 in 6wks purely by changing my diet no exercise.

I used to be a sporty person but went to uni 10 yrs ago and not really been interested since. So I didn't want to rely on exercise to lose weight as inevitably when I stopped it would come back on again. Same with fad diets and calorie counting.

My mum recommended I read the slimming world diet book. Rather than calorie count you're encouraged to eat as much of the right foods as you want until your full and you need to eat regularly. It sounds daft that you can eat as much as you want but it does work. I've found in the last 6wks that I can't eat as much and my portion sizes are naturally shrinking.

Obviously, if you add in exercise you'll burn it off quicker.

My plan is to keep going until I hit a plateau then maybe start exercising and with being a lot lighter it will be easier than before and I may start to enjoy it again.

Good thing is is that I'm losing on average 1-2lbs a day and then maybe gaining a couple over the weekend when I go for a meal out or have a few beers but as long as I have been good in the week I can still lose weight. Simples.

Yes a faster heart rate means you're more into the fitness training zone, but you'd alsobe burning fat at a higher rate than with a slower heart rate. So go for as high heart rate as you can sustain for maximum fat loss.

The body does burn a higher percentage of calories from fat in the 'fat burning zone' or at lower intensities. But, at higher intensities, you burn a greater number of overall calories which is what you should be concerned about when trying to lose weight. The chart below details the fat calories expended by a 130-pound woman during cardio exercise:

    ...............................................Low Intensity - 60-65%............High Intensity - 80-85%
    Total Calories expended per min.........4.86.................................................6.86
    Fat Calories expended per min.............2.43................................................2.7
Total Calories expended in 30 min........146.................................................206
Total Fat calories expended in 30 min....73..................................................82
    Percentage of fat calories burned.........50%.............................................39.85%

i do 10 mins on the bike slowly, then a moderate jog or cross trainer for 5 mins, then 3 sets of 10-12 on 2/3 muscle groups depending on day, then smash the abbs every day for the week, and leave the abs over the weekend. worked a treat, ive lost loads of weight but still got my babies :P mwuaha.

Exactly why when I come out of the tube at Bank I run absolutely as fast as I possibly can (seriously as im wearing a rucksack if I had a tan I would get shot dead) up the long exit which is an uphill slope with lots of sets of steps on it, gets my heartrate right up then a brisk walk from there to the office keeps it up for the next 15 mins or so.

Certainly been working for me, and its comedy gold seeing all the commuters in suits diving out the way as I charge like an elephant thats been shot in the arse up the stairs towards them lmao

Ab work is pointless unless you have low bodyfat i.e. less than 12%.

A 6pack is made in the kitchen not in the gym. i.e. you'll get a flat stomach from cutting or burning calories (eat less and do more cardio). Sit ups are a waste of time; they will not burn the fat on your stomach. You can't "spot fat" reduce, so you may aswell just go running which is a far more efficient calorie burner than situps or "ab work".

    re: Losing a beer belly

At 17.9 he would probably need to be eating 4500-5000 calories to stay that weight if he gets moderate exercise.

So I dont see why he cant lose a lb in a day if he is on a crash diet.

I lost 5lbs in my first five days, by cutting my intake form about 4000 to around 1500 calories a day and doing mild exercise.

Running 20 miles like you suggest, at his weight, would probably take a minimum of 5000 calories extra, so he could easily lose another pound a day as well if he was doing that, well I say easily, the running bit wouldnt be easy, lol
