Re: Handing in notice at work

jamied- Do u have to give a reason as to why u are leaving and do they have to give u a letter of reference before u go?

Dexy- Is this a knee jerk reaction to the way the company treats u or is it u fed up of working for them? I ask only because if it's u not liking the way u are being treated u may have recourse other than quitting.

p.s. Yes, definately keep the jacket.

Good stuff! You can't leave a job and not rob something! As long as its not something outrageous like 1/2 a tank of av gas before the helicopter leaves.... Or **** it, take the whole damn helicopter!

You don't have to give a reason why you are leaving, some company's now adopt an 'exit interview' this is when you sit with your boss and/or HR person and tell them why you are leaving, in this interview you can say what ever you like as it not on your record and it there to 'help the company' just don't go OTT.

As for reference most places will not give you one, unless a new employer asks for a reference from your old employee thats the only time, but you have the right to not ask you old company to give you a reference if you left under grievances.

Last week i went on a free HR (Human Resources...what ever happened to personnel) course due to running a small business, thought it would be a waste of time but it was quite good, found a few things out for when i employ someone soon.

thought I'd add - maybe best to hold off until you have something else lined up.

just so you have some money spare for buying all the 16 year olds some sweets

Never hand your notice in before you have another job to go to.

Re: Handing in notice at work

I certainly would not hand my notice in until I had something concrete to go to. I'd also do my best to leave on good terms. Don't say anything too negative as you always need to keep doors open. Is it the oil industry you work in Dexy? Are you not seeing signs that work is dropping off a little at the moment?

Im leaving on the worst possible terms with my company, they have treated me like a dick so they can do one.

I dont care if anyone would hand in there notice without a job, im not worried about it, i have other options and i cant loose.

Not seeing any signs of work dropping off as i aint been busy here at all.

I always aim for at least 3 pages, strewn with phrases such as "Much as I have enjoyed [insert menial task here]" and "But I want to be an astronaut"
