    Cordless impact wrench gen wanted?

After using one at the weekend I've now decided that my life needs to have one in it.

The one I used was a Snap On 18v jobby and was amazing, it costs £470 though.

Now Machine Mart do one for £90ish, it's a 24v one and has about the same torque as the 18V Bosch ones they also sell at £300+ (200nm). Will this be any good? Has anyone used them?

It's worth the money as they go to 475N m tightening torque.

This is something I looked into a while back. In short, nothing comes even close to the snap on job in terms of max torque. There are loads for sale around the £100 - £150 mark, but all are capable of less than half the torque of the snap on one.

I fancy one, but I aint paying £500 list price for it. They turn up on ebay every now and then for around £350ish. You can get them fom ebay america for around $300 which is about half UK prices, but itstricky to find a trusted seller who is willing to post internationally.

Will they turn up today? I could be doing with one to take the crank bolt off my Astra to do a belt change I just need to know if they'll manage it.

There not going to IMO get a crank bolt out, mine wouldn't anyway.

What Astra do you have that you have to take the crank bolt off to change the belt? That is a new one on me.

Re: Cordless impact wrench gen wanted?

I bought a Sealey one, and it doesn't touch a Snap On gun. The Sealey one was supposed to be rated higher torque, but on lots of things it struggled.

Put it this way, my mates Snap On guns battery was nearly spent, and it STILL was more able at undoing nuts and bolts than the Sealey at full charge.

Someone nicked my gun in the end, I didn't mourn its loss!

A horrid 1.6 Mk3 with PAS. The bottom pulley for the aux belt seems to be in the way

It was 4 years since I did one though so I'm probably wrong.

You should have claimed off your insurance. Not that I am even suggesting you could have said it was a Snap-On one that got pinched.....

I think you will find the aux belt pully unbolts from the toothed crank pully. Five or six hex or torx head bolts. Buy some spares too....

    £470 it's bloody good though.

There's a few second hand on ebay. One claiming it's been recently serviced

    I'll start saving.

I was looking at them last night. I might just bite the bullet. After using it I'd say it's going to pay for itself lots off times over. Even for just changing wheels

Plus I could always sell it on if need be. They seem to keep their value quite well.

Scooby off here has a snap on one, he was raving about it last time I saw him, must admit it sounds like a proper bit of kit. My mate Wez bought one of these http://cgi.ebay.co.uk/DEWALT-DC825KB...d=p3286.c0.m14 He's more than happy with it, although it does have its limits the size of it has its advantages on cars.

I don't think it's the case on small block engines.
