Arrow Tips on Efficient Use of MIGWeb

There are many features here on MIGWeb and it is understandable that users can get confused by it all. This post is just to help out users make more efficient use of their time here on MIGWeb. Please note that it has come to our attention that this is an issue for veteran users as well as new users, so can all take this on board. Please also note that MIGWeb has an FAQ, so please refer to this too.

Keeping track of threads (Subscriptions)

The subscription system here on MIGWeb is very powerful but seems to be under utilised. If you use MIGWeb on a regular basis, I suggest the following method for using the site:

Set your subscription settings to subscribe to threads without email notification. You are automatically subscribed to threads in which you participate. You can also subscribe to threads which you are interested in watching.
Make you MIGWeb favourite (bookmark) you UserCP instead of the main page of forum page. This way, you can see straight away if there have been any activity of threads you have participated in, or if you have any new PMs.
You can unsubscribe from threads at anytime from you UserCP

For users who only visit from time to time:

Make sure you have email notification turned on in your subscription settings.
You can go straight to threads from these notification emails.
You can unsubscribe from threads by clicking on the unsubscribe link in the email notifications.
Make you MIGWeb favourite (bookmark) you UserCP instead of the main page of forum page. This way, you can see straight away if there have been any activity of threads you have participated in, or if you have any new PMs.
If you stop using the site, turn of email notifications in your UserCP or by clicking the relevant link in any notification email.

Problems and Support.

If you have a question that you wish to direct to staff, you can use the help desk. Please do not PM staff directly as staff like to keep PMs for personal use. The help desk is private. Users can only see posts they make in it, but staff see everything in there from all users. This is viewable by Moderators and Admin. You can use the Help Desk for MIGClub and MIGWeb support questions.

For general how to related question, please use the Public Help and Testing forum. This way regular users can help you out too.

See a post that you think needs the attention of a moderator. Please user the Report Bad Post feature by clicking on this icon: . Please fill out the form before submitting. This creates a thread in the moderators private forum which will allow staff to act quickly and even discuss the thread if required. Please be sure you click report bad post for the correct post so that staff can see exactly what the problem is.

Never email staff. Please keep all support issue on the site. There is only one exception to this, when you forget your password and have changed email address therefore cannot use the “Forget Password” feature. This can be avoided by ensuring your email address is kept up to date.

Moderation

MIGWeb has a number of moderator on the site whose primary objective is to moderate content of posts. Sometimes though, moderation of users is required due to breaking of the forum rules. Please be sure you are familiar with the rules.

There is an infraction and warning system in place for moderators to use. Getting a minor warning or infraction is no biggie. Sometimes warning are given purely to inform users that what they have done is against the rules for the site and not a real reprimand. Infractions are usually given for users who continue to break the rules and are usually given after a warning has been issued. The system logs warning and infractions, so all staff can see the user history. Multiple breaking of the same rule can lead to a gagging from staff.

As said above, the moderators main objective is to moderate post content. We do not wish to moderate users, but sometimes this is necessary, so please keep in mind that moderators are merely trying to keep the peace on MIGWeb.

It should be noted that private messages are private! Any notification of a warning or infraction should remain private. Starting threads discussing a warning or infraction you have been given is completely unacceptable and may result in a further infraction.

Keeping your profile up to date.

This one is very important, especially if you join MIGClub. We need to know your correct email address at all times. Please can you ensure you keep this up to date. This will help us help you if you have any problems that need dealing with.

I will be fine tuning this text and add the content to the FAQ.

Thanks

Mike
