    Hmm dodgy cheque?

    hi

a friend of mine is selling a trailer and has had interest from a customer in germany..

he bought the item for £2100 but sent a £6000 cheque...

he is willing to have it shipped to germany at great expense

this sounds all to much like the western money transfer scam? (dont know much about it..)

how can the cheque be cancelled after it clears?

    please advise

    regards, brian

Maybe he made a mistake on the EUR to GBP conversion? Best get your mate to speak to his bank to see what they say about the possibility of it being cancelled after the goods have been sent.

I wouldnt send anything until the cheque had cleared and funds were present in my account. Even if it was for £5 i wouldnt send item until i had the money in my account.

Tell him the bank have referred the cheque to the police for investigation as they have had a lot of fraudulent cheques recently - there is probably nothing to worry about but you need a copy of his passport for identity purposes

See how quickly he runs then .........

It's money laundering - He's sent a cheque for £6000 of dirty money. For that he’ll get a trailer and a £3,900 refund.

Now he has an expensive trailer which he can sell on or keep and £3,900 of clean money.

dont be silly, if its money laundering it wouldnt already be in a bank normally

I could be wrong but it's a real possibility.
No chance at all in this instance.

Mr A would not be handing over 6K of his hard earned criminal funds to some random bloke in a foreign country and then blindly hoping he got some of it back lmao lmao lmao

The 6K absolutely WILL bounce in a few weeks, guarenteed!

I tried to edit that because it didnt read right.

What it should of said -

If someone wanted to transferred money between businesses then they could use that method. Business A’s bank a/c would show a £6,000 cheque receipt for an international purchase. Business B’s bank a/c would show £3,900 deposit which could be listed as something sold, then they sell the item already sold again.

    me bitch hard !!
    Do what Dom has said

Or cash the cheque, don't send goods (in this case we know its a scam) then reply to the german bloke that you really can't be bothered to send the trailer as your off out to spend the 6k on a new one.....

(obviusly don't touch the money if it were to clear as in a few weeks the bank will be wanting it back )

That still relies on the blind faith that this person in another country they dont know will want to return their 4 grand, criminals tend not to be so trusting

I agree, but it is a distinct possibility. The saying as thick as thieves comes to mind.

What is there to stop you waiting for the cheque to clear, withdrawing the money in cash and placing it in another account with a different bank and then closing the original account if it takes 'weeks' for it to bounce?

"thick" in that context means that they are very tightly integrated to each other and dont trust outsiders, and that it actually means the opposite in this context to what you are trying to imply lmao
