I don't think there's a company as such involved at this stage. Various companies are still developing the necessary technology.

I for one am against it because I don't believe the system will have sufficient robustness against 'false positives' and also be open to fraud, both of which will be absolute hell for the victims. The cards will be relied upon too heavily. I also don't see how it will bring the claimed benefits. The possible other uses I think are blown up out of proportion by consipracy theorists, but I suppose you don't know what this government might dream up in another 10 years.

TBH if there were proper, organised, credible protests against these cards I would join in.

I agree- this country is full of people who legally shouldn't be here.

Australia has the best idea- only let people in who are gonna benefit the economy.

Thats bollocks (sorry don't mean to b harsh), when theres money to b made, someone will find a way to smuggle them in, there will always be a black market, and I give it less than 12 months before fakes start circulating.

Besides the rate that this country is going down the toilet, no-one will want to come over here anyway. Infact the'll probably suck us dry then move on to the next country, like parasites.

How do id cards compromise your freedom?

imo the only people opposed to such things are those who have something to hide.

Anyway, id rather have a barcode on the back of the neck, much better! lmao

They may not to start with but, there is the potential for abuse by both the government the criminal fraternity..

Also why the hell should we pay for them, twice!!!!!

In principle they are not a bad idea themsleves, its the bio data etc, that worries me, that could take identity theft to a whole new level...

I`ve no problems with an id card,as long as it also as acts a european id/passport card and includes your driving licence.

I was chatting to a dude in Malaysia about the fingerprinting of people over there,every-one is done as a child and again at 18,he couldn`t believe it wasn`t done over here.

That's just it, it won't make any difference. Merely the asylum seekers will be issued with one, and any illegal aliens will continue to hide underground getting backhanders just like they do now.

i don't think this gov has ever managed a decent IT project, this ID card thing will turn into a nightmare lmao

and we have to pay for our own cards!

as for "if you've got nothing to hide, what's the problem?" i'm sorry but that sucks

as a human being, and individual, why should i have to bend over backwards to prove my ID? why should i pay for this govs mistake? I have a drivers license (paper one, i aint paying for a card) i have a passport, i have a birth cert, i have far too many credit agreements in my name, i have a paper trail as long as the thames that says i am me

as this card system comes in, only the law abiding will be taking it up, proper terrorists, proper criminals will not be signing up, they'll find a way round it, just like evrything else, they'll get away with it

in the meantime, the good law abiding people who have nothing to hide will suffer false positives etc

it will not make a difference to our safety, all it will do is provide more evidence should we ever make a mistake, commit a crime wittingly or unwitingly

    imagine this.......

you hit a kid who runs out in front of you (i almost did this last week, scared the sheet out of me)

you were doing the limit/a safe speed for the road/conditions

skid marks etc are inconclusive proof of your speed

"defendent, you received an sp30 3 years ago"

    yes

"yet you claim you were not speeding, despite a history of speeding offences"

"we know from the ANPR database that your average mway speed is 80mph, you claim you do not speed"

not by schools, and not in this case

"we know from our database you filled up with optimax 2 hours before the incident, we can also see from your credit card records that you boght NOZ octane booster from halfords the saturday before hand, did you put this in your car?"

    yeah, so?

"we also see from your credit cards receipts that you purchased etc etc etc etc"

basically what i am geting at is a little file on each citizen that contains all this info, right from birth cert, school reports, job applications and appraisals etc etc, full data collection on the whole country, a convenient stash of information to on each one of us, with little triggers on certain points "citizen 569786546 just bough "how to kill or be killed on ebay" "just bought a balaclava from blacks outdoors" "just bought some fertiliser"

ARREST HIM ON TERROR CHARGES! HOLD HIM FOR 28 DAYS WITHOUT CHARGE!

according to the data, i could very well be a terrorist

or, i have an interest in the military, i'm going walking and i need a balaclava to keep my head warm, and the scabby lawn needs sorting out

but i'd be ****ed, because when they search my house, they'll find loads of surplus gear associated with my military interest hobby, they'll find a few us instruction books i've found like how to make booby traps and guerilla tactics from the korean or maybe vietnam wars, they'll find a biscuit tin with left over fireworks from last year pluss other random incendiary type stuff like flash powder and smoke bomb things from paintball, they find my huge feck off surplus machete, my massive survival knife, my bio diesel plant could probably be described as a bomb making factory by them

anyway, i'm ranting and you've probably stopped reading, bottom line...

serious crims and terrorists will avoid the card, we will see no benefit, apart from being out of pocket, thoroough being forced to pay for the card, and paying for the system through taxes

    Oh, and one more thing.

The ID card, like the biometric passport allows your ID to stolen by criminals up to 400 feet away without your knowledge.

Pablo's got it about right !!

Basically, the illegal immigrants and criminals won't give a sh*t !! As ever, all this crap will just impact on the (mostly) law abiding citizen !

Take the gun laws,as an example..... There's more gun crime now, than there ever was, when you could legally own a firearm !! So what does that tell you ??
    I rest my case !!
