    Anyone had private healthcare?

Has anyone had their knee's sorted privately? what was it you had done and how much roughly? I'm going to look into taking out a loan and pay whatever it costs so long as it isn't the price of a small yaht or anything daft like that. What are we talking thousands or tens of thousands?
I need both knee's sorting as the nhs doctors are incompetent mountain gorillas who have no motivation whatsoever to findibf out the problem. I'll be hear in pain for another 2 years if I don't do this private. I've had a bone scan and multiple mri scans so all I need to pay for really is for a private doctor to take a bit of interest in finding out the problem and not just telling me to carry on living in silly amounts of pain after having the torn cartilage repaired 3 times. It's obviously taring for a reason and the nhs are jut telling me to live with torn cartilage and let athritis sit in before we'll get off our fat bums and help you

aye will do I just wanted to see if it was the price of a small car or a few grand like you say, a few grand for a doctor to research and look at alternatives i'm happy to pay a few grand for if I can get diagnosed. I don't need knees bad enough if it's like 8-10 grand like on some of these hospital tv shows in america.

Toj was that removed or was it just smoothed over so it 's nice and flat again? I've had bits of mine cut and smoothed over atleast 3 times on both knee's and it keeps taring. Do you get much pain since they done it 7 years ago? Has it fixed the problem for you? I'm in so much pain with it and he told me to just live with it this morning so I wasn't too happy and managed to get another mri scan in a few weeks hopefully since the last one was well over a year ago.

I looked into this myself, Your looking between £4k and £6k for cartilage work, I too had torn my knee cartilage, and had it trimmed up twice, then it tore again, I waited just over 2 years (in pain and fear of my knee locking in half bent position) for a proper operation though with the NHS,

My last operation they drilled and took a core of regenerative cartilage from the non loading bearing side of the knee, then drilled into the damaged cartilage (load bearing is non regenerative) and filled the hole with a matrix paste made from the core they extracted, idea behind this is that the regenerative cartilage cells "take" and gradually repair the cartilage.

I then spent 2 months on crutches with no load bearing, and then at about 3 months I was back to walking, and 6 months to be able to run/jog on it.
I've never pushed it since though, but really want to give snowboarding a go at some point, just worried it could all come undone again.

You could always try standing the sheep on a box to save kneeling down.....

My mom is fairly senior in a private company so i've been on the insurance for a good long while.

Best bet would be to try and take out an insurance policy, wait until your knee's let og again and make a claim. Will have to pay an excess but with any luck won't need a loan....

I had my cartligue and crueschia lig (sp) done in a bupa hospital and the bill for just the room and after care in the hospital was about £2000 and that was about 14 years ago and did not include the bill for the surgeon or the anthatist (sp).
The whole bill was just short of £5000
Dads company policy picked up the bill thoughlmao

erm.... ..... I've had 9 or 10 operations on my knees in total (lost count) lmao and seen 3 different consultants all done through private medical cover.

It would be very hard to say how much it would cost, not only does it depend what treatment is needed, but also which consultant you're under.

I couldn't possibly work out how much mine has cost in total, but well into the thousands!!!! Just to see my orthopeadic surgeon now for a consultation would cost £100.

You also need to take into consideration the cost of private physio after surgery

Do you not have Health Cover with your job? (Maybe I take my policy for granted )

I've had years of physio & corrective surgery on both knees, ankles and arches in both feet (Due to years of wearing high heels ) and yeah the NHS were crappy and slow.

Got all my appointments sorted through BUPA within 24 hours and no paperwork to do which was nice

There are loads of helplines you can call to get an idea on policy prices etc.

    Good Luck

they wont cover knee's as it is an existing problem, would have to pay direct.

I'm with WPA have been since the age of 2, covered through my dads work til i was 18, then had no choice but to continue to pay for medical insurance becasue of the problems with my knees, also had no choice but to stay with WPA as no other insurance company will cover me for orthopeadic treatment.

Simlar too the policy i had with my Dads company Bupa would only cover you for new ailments not exsiting medical issues.

9-10 heh atleast it makes me fill a little less depressed since i've only had I think 6-7 op's, and on my second consultant, both as useless as each other (I'm also waiting to see another specialist that ive been on the list for over a year with and it could be another year on top).

It's the whole attitude of the nhs doctors that annoys me, if they dont know what the problem is their more than willing on many occassions to tell me theirs nothing we can do so just go live with it. Do you get that kind of attitude on private healthcare? My last operation which was this time last year made both my knees twice as bad and they were bad before that -i've only just seen another consultant today as my old one seems to think if he doesnt know the answer nothing can be done. follow ups on operations this long shouldnt happen i'm sure their has to be some kind of deadline for operation follow ups the nhs have to meet they cant expect patients who are still suffering as bad as me to just live with it.
I have the option to claim cleppy benefit if I want it but i've turned it down because I don't want it to affect my chances of moving to america to live for a while in a few years time hopefully.

blimey not cheap then especially as I would need to time's it by 2 for both knees. I fancy new knees that I can service and maintain myself as I don't think they last all that long
