    Computer Help Needed Urgently

Right i need ur help couple of weeks ago i was using my computer and all of a sudden it turned itself off and after that wouldnt turn back on,

i have been told it might be the hard driver as the tower was directly next to the monitor without the metal sheild inside the tower, but im really skint so i dont wanna shell out for a new hard drive and that doesnt make it work, all i know is that its not the power supply as have tried a replacement

so basically what im asking is has anyone else ever had the same problem or knows what maybe up with mine

help is seriously needed as i have to keep using my brothers comp which is annoying

oh yeah u might need to know that when u press the power button nothin at all happens no noises or lights or anything

    help me please ,please,please

If it won't post it is most likly a faulty power supply.

When you say it won't switch on you mean, like, totaly dead man?

Could it be the motherboard. Basically you are pressing it and nothing is happening. Might be the connection on the motherboard that the power supply connects to. Not going to power up if ya not getting any power to ya motherboard.

OK, disconnect all IDE devices and remove all cards and see what happens.

    Try Reseating all the Cards.

Make sure the power connector is connected properly to the motherboard.

Take all the power leads out of your drives.

If its not a power problem then it will be your motherboard.

If it was anything else, then it should power on and beep a few times

What CPU is it? i might be able to sort you out with a motherboard to test

Hey Usedillusion. Don't suppose you have a spare motherboard a processor going cheap you want rid of do you. My comp is playing up big time. I know its the processor getting very hot so I am wanting to replace it. Want it to be better aswell as its an AMD-K6 2 so wanting something better.

it could be anything not making it turn on take all non essential things out leaving just video, cpu and memory and give it a go if still nothing try taking the mother board out and run it out of the case and see if anything happens if not it will be down to CPU, motherboard, memory, PSU, or video card you can test by taking memory out and video coz it will beep at you with them out if no beep's then it will be MB or CPU.
just remebered there are some MB's that wont run if the CPU fan fails so could be that.

If its totally dead - ie doesnt boot up then would say your PSU is buggered!

If you have replaced the PSU with one that works then I'd start looking at your motherboard....poss hard drive.....

    How old is computer?

You might be able to call out manufacturer....

If its harddrive though the computer would turn on as power would be going to the motherboard. The power LED would come on surely but it just wouldn't do anything and just sit there. Bios would load but Windows wouldn't.

When I had a recent problem with mine its because the CPU was fooked. The computer turned on but then nothing came up on the screen and nothing loaded. It just sat turned on.

ok if u switch it on and nothing happens and the computer is an AT which means it cannot switch itself off the likely cause will be the power unit

if the computer is an atx the likely cause could be the processor coz no one had developed a fan for processors that doesent brake after 400hours of usage so the possible cause could be the fan breaking causing the processor to overheat

it would not be the hard drive as the system would turn on an display error messages

firstly try an atx power unit

if it turns on and bleeps it would be the ram

if it dont turn on and its an atx and nothing happens (no bleeps) it most likely processor

if it dont turn on and its at it will be the power unit

or if u r silly and dint check the fuse in the plug its most likely that

i was speakin to someone on winmx and he hasent had his pc off since 1999 lol he said it sounds like a hoover coz the fans r dead lol

hope i was of some use

OK guys, he said he has swapped the PSU.

Normaly if it won't post and the PSU is OK then it is the CPU.

If the PSU and CPU is fine a series of beeps comes to say what is wrong.

But he is getting nowt and it's not the PSU so it is most likely the CPU is fried or the mainboard has gone tits-up.
