Dont you find that sony products are compatible with NOTHING but other sony products?
lol, I guess if everything you have is sony then that wouldnt be a problem![]()
I used to lurve Sony stuff.... until I bought a digi camera and it's pretty crap.
Coulda paid half the price and got a better bit of kit.

I wouldn't say I'm a snob but I am loyal to a brand if I've previously bought a product from them and I was 100% happy with it.

I couldn't care less. They're all the same anyway (apart from the real budget ones perhaps). I buy the one that fits my needs best regardless of brand.

Not that fussed, as long as it does everything I want and the price doesn't take the piss I am happy enough.
Sony is good for some things and rubbish in others.
Say for serious cd players they are crap. I know, I bought their high-end unit to use as transport, although every fibre in my body told me to think again. It was so sexy with the top-loading sliding perspex tray that I couldn't resist. Also had the mechanism with fixed laser and moving transport, which is licenced to most high-end manufacturers. How could it go wrong? Well it sounded rubbish, and after opening it up I saw why. It was all looks and no attention to detail.
Same with digital cameras: looking at tech specs you can't tell jack, number of pixels etc are no substitute for a decent lens. Try a company with long history in traditional cameras, and you won't go too far wrong. My trusty Olympus c-200 zoom is only 2.1 Mpixels and was half price at Argos (!) two years ago.
The quality of pictures is phenomenal, closeups, everything.
I've tried Sony digi cameras costing a LOT more and they cannot match the image/colour quality.
You see Olympus knows how to make a good camera, Sony doesn't.
They are all made in taiwan/china/malaysia by the cheapest labour available anyway. The sony employees probably just get beaten with a better quality stick.
No, definately not a snob. I'll happily by "non brand" stuff if it suits my needs.
I've got a few branded items, but most of our stuff are the cheaper brands. Panasonic head unit. LG video and DVD Player, Bush widescreen TV (which replaced a "Naiko" Widescreen that lasted only 11months lmao (but I got my money back))
I've got a Philips stereo at home, cost £385 for my 18th birthday. 15 years later it's still going strong. I doubt even the names of today (Like Sony etc) could make something like that today that will last as long.
Hey, you! Out there on the road always doing what you're told, can you help me?
Yes i am - i cant help it.
Yes.

My dad has some Sony hifi stuff from the 70s, it is made so well it unbelievable and the amp although not hugely powerful is so crisp and clear it puts a lot of modern stuff to shame!
I have a phillips sterio also... Like you, Had it for years and years and it still works great!!Originally Posted by SteveW
My point about Sony products being incompatible, Take their cameras, they can only take sony memory sticks, cutting out any chance of buying them cheaper off another company... Or their Viaos, so many compatability issues there. What about Minidisk players? You have to use their ****ty unstable 'OpenMG' software. It pisses me off.
no not really i but items that represent good value or i have heard good things about
Sony 14 inch protables the best telly I have had. For hi-fi etc they are crap but thats comparing it to high end gear.
There car gear is also crap, I find pioneer far superior for car audio.
Goodmans and Daewoo use sony gear in their videos.
I don't give a p-h-u-k whatcha gotta say!
I like AIWA stuff. Got a huge stacking stereo in the lounge, looks mean and sounds good. Although the tape deks have sufferef from non-use. AIWA video because it was cheap and looked good compared to the other ones that were trying too hard to look expensive. Got an AIWA telly too, not that common at all. Not the best TV by any means, but again I liked the simple look of it and the features for the price.
I like Sony stuff, always seems well made, but expensive, so never actually owned any apart from Playstations.
Got an Alpine in the Mk2, this has been going strong for well over 5 years, again, has a nice simple design with easily accessible features. Kennwood in the Mk3 is far more fiddly to use, I hate on/ off buttons you have to hold for 2 seconds, stupid design!
My digi cam is made by Fuji, and they are pretty good at cameras I think.
As Steve says, you need to use the company that specialise in that area. I will only buy Intel processors for example, and I will stick to Fuji for my cameras, I like the user setup. Nokia phones, too. Haven't liked the other makes.
They're there, in their room.
Sony manufacture AIWA products, so are an excellent buy, all built to the same standards

Woohoo!

Some are Sony, yes, but not all. They also are made by Toshiba, Samsung, LG.... The list is endlesssOriginally Posted by Floella Benjamin

Its all the same, i dont really care what the brand is...only exceptions to this was me looking specifically for a Kenwood home CD player, to match my kenwood amp.
the brand-x dvd player I had was a lot less moody about playing copi...err...back-up dvd`s than my newer Sony one is. It broke down though and the Sony one came up cheaply. I thought it would be significantly better, but its simply not.
I'm not, happily buy the cheap electrical goods from Asda! Although my 4 year old ALBA tv has packed up, not a good advert!
If I like it, I lick it. If I dont, I kick it

I tend to buy whatever's going cheap really.
Hi-fi wise I've got a sony Dolby digital amp, hooked up to Mission speakers, a Sony top-end DVD (bought for £35 through work), a Kenwood cassette deck, a Sony CD player and a Panasonic TV and video.
The hi-end Sony stuff can be really good quality, but the bottom-end of the range IS cheap and nasty.
