Anyone bouught ****ing half life 2?

What a load of crap. I have had this game 4 days and still cannot get it to work!! They have this stupid registration process you have to pass on the internet before you can play it. They give you a number to phone and the woman just tells you the net is busy!!!!
Funnily enough it is always the same woman. (Probably sat in a caravan in Kentucky!)
If anyone else has this problem then please put up a post cos I am really cheesed right now.

It's a shame, the net reg thing really does spoil the absolute fantastic game. I've played through twice now.

All I can say is hang in there, it's well worth it in the end...
    They're there, in their room.

I bought it through Steam (Silver Package), no registration hassle, runs like a dream, and it's bloody good too.

Bought a retail version of it for my brother for Xmas too.

Got it, works fine for me.

Not played it that much as I'm on CS:Source most of the time (see sig).

Re: Anyone bouught ****ing half life 2?

The only message I get is: : "steam servers unable to process transaction" I could really do with anybodys ideas cos I really want to play this game.
The support is absolute crap. Only an american phone number which is useless, the shop says it is non refundable and the web site never e-mails me back!!!

Luckily, I hate the idea of giving *any* money to Valve (the arrogant b*stards) so I can rest safe in the knowledge that I will never 'experience' Steam lmao

I couldn't care less what Valve as a company are like, same way as I don't care what Microsoft are like but they both enable me to run a fantastic game.

Tried all that neil. Uninstalled all the Norton anti-virus programs and firewalls but to no avail. What happened to the "good ol days" when you could just put your cd in install it and off you go. All I have now is a very expensive coaster

Re: Anyone bouught ****ing half life 2?

Bought the game, installed it and after mucho messing about it finally decided to work - my personal opinion of the game is that it's eye candy - nothing more nothing less, the gameplay is far far behind older games like Call of Duty (In that you can't go prone, you can't lean, you can't aim down the sights of your weapon etc etc).
OK so it looks and sounds really really nice and the physics are very realistic - but the fun of smashing up crates and boxes with a crowbar or chucking things around just cos you can wears off very quickly.
It's also far too linear and one dimensional - there is only one way to get past certain 'puzzles' with no real sense of freedom to be able to work an alternative soloution to them - the same can be said for the majority of games but at least other games do offer some kind of alternative options.
The loading times are appaling and the way it pauses inbetween levels to load the next section is frustrating - they should of added 'Patience' to the minimum requirements panel on the back of the case............

Overall and after all the hype - I'm not impressed, what I find the most annoying is that they only released a playable demo this week (which is 700MB and still requires a fricking steam account) almost a couple of months after the full retail version was released - had I of played this demo before buying the game then I'd of saved myself £35.

    Just my opinion though.

Yeah - it took me, and this is no word of a joke, almost 5 hours from first inserting the DVD to actually being able to play the game and I already had a STEAm account setup.
I'm on a 1.5 MB line so if you're on dialup and it's some kind of problem connecting to STEAm then you're in for a fair old wait.
For what it's worth I also use Norton and didn't have to disable it for HL2 to install.

    Have fun!
