Assuming you happen to have a vast amount of experience from which to decide if something is right or not, that is true.

Most of the DIY engines build by others I have seen inside though, they may have KNOWN it was "all done right, I know as I did it myself" but the reality is normally they are rubbish cause people dont actually know what they are looking for.

Perfect exmaple is the engine I bought from Rob Fairbrother on here, piston to bore clearance so tight it would have seized solid the first time it was used, and yet him and all the other lads he hung around with were all confident it was spot on when I spoke to them.

Stuart Sanderson at motorsport developments in blackpool gets my vote for someone local, but you are probably looking at about 4 grand for a full rebuild based on his cossie prices, so depends on your budget.

If you are trying to do it for a grand or something, like most folk seem to want to, then you are NOT going to get a proper rebuilt done, I spend more than that in parts alone!

stuart @ msd is very good a perfectionist of the highest order

i have a ze-vh turbo built for my ka it cost £5,000 and i still had to have everything else made etc (rads, chargecooler, exhaust, box, , management, mapping etc)

i couldve built it, but as chip says unless you REALLY know what your looking for it wont be very good, what you might think is good, is in reality utter junk

it always pays to get somebody who knows what they are doing

hmm 4k is is exxcessive, im not after overboreing etc

just new bearings, makes sure the crank and clearneces are ok, a port and polish'd head, re-build with std askets and arp bolts on the bottom end, the engine wont see past 130bhp so im not going crazy on it,

still needs to be done right, weather its 50bhp or 500bhp , spend the money in the right areas and the engine will last many thousands of miles

Well a rebuild involves a rebore, a quick freshen up doesnt.

If its only a low power outout engine its less critical, and is probably a waste of time involving a pro builder like you want to.

Just get a local engine reconditioners to chuck something together for you.
(which they typically will do more or less literally, lol)

If your looking for a reliable rebuild of any standard, this place is mint. http://www.impulsedevelopments.co.uk/index.htm

Im currently having a head recon. I've been to the workshop and they've got all the gear. They'll do you a standard rebuild or anything you as for. They also do race engines depending on what you need.

Lloyd Motors must have about the best reputation of any garage anywhere. Loads of people I know swear by them and Trevor is a top fella.
Adam, have you tried Headway, Garden City Ind. Est, Deeside? Speak to Ron or Paul, I know they at least do cylinder heads and I think it was Paul who actually invented the repair for porous red top heads. I've used them for head work before and they are very, very good at their work.
