Copied from an older post of mine
I spotted a N reg Cav CDX on the autotrader at a dealers about 40 miles from here. Rang them up - yes they still had it, checked with the description - yes it has service history, is rust and rot free and I wouldn't find a better one for the price.
An hours drive later I spotted the car. Initially it looked fantastic but ..........
Alloy wheels were corroded with the center caps peeling
Drivers door had rotted away at the bottom
Engine was still hot but the car hadn't moved (lots of water under the exhaust) - this made me immedately suspicious.
Obvious water leak on the radiator
Lots of scratches on the bodywork that had been touched up.
Rot appearing on the wheel arches and seams.
The car was up for £800 though - spoke to the woman on the forecourt and asked when the cambelt was done - she said she didn't have a clue but it probably wasn't that long ago. I asked to see the service history to which she replied there wasn't any (I pointed out that it said service history on the windscreen of the car as well

).
Up until the next point she was as nice as pie to me but as soon as I spotted the hot engine she went all cagey and started becoming unavailable and ringing her boss etc. When I asked her to start it up she did - what a racket !!! Exhaust was blowing and it took nearly a minute for the engine to stop tapping

.
When I pointed out the rust and rot she basically told me to get lost - if I wanted a Cavalier of this age without any rust I would need to pay at least another £1000

- I then pointed her to my rot and virtually rust free L reg Cavalier with less miles on and asked if she wanted to buy that for £1000 with a full service history etc
Needless to say I got the finger and she stormed off.
