ok this isnt my problem but a friend who owns an M plate 2.0L Cav Ecotec.

A couple of days ago he noticed a noise coming from the drivers side rear of the car it started as a whining noise then became much much louder. This resulted in the car not pulling whatsoever. At first i thought it was the Fuel flow damper, but apparently the Ecotec dont have one. In the end all i could do was to advise him to get a new fuel pump which he did. but after a few miles its started again.

What else could it be?? with it being the back of the car im stuck. Fuel pump relay perhaps?

Hes currently stranded at his inlaws and a quick answer would releave him from this awfull situation ;)

Thanks in advance.

Guys We are completley stuck now, The pump whines like a banshee.

We completely drained the tank and although full of shite it is now clean.

we are now down 2 pumps 2 filters and a new FPR.

Heeeeeeelllllllllpppp

nope, no joy there either. power seems fine. the conclusion seems to be that BOTH pumps are faulty, they seemed to work for a few mins. but then whine away.
(along with the rather irrate owner)

The latest thing tried now has been to use a further pump i had lying around for my GSi. Obviously this is the under car one but still after a lot of twisting, turning and chopping we managed to get it into the tank and actually ran it for 30 seconds or so.

Then the bas*ard packed in!

still we are stuck and the only thing we have learned is that after stripping down a fuel pump and seeing how it works, we shouldnt have worred to much about not smoking. The fuel seems to run right through the full workings of the electrical motor, bushes and all scary huh?

Now have the unfortunate prospect of pricing a new VX pump. anyone know what they cost?

im guessing but I would say your fuel return (back to the tank) was blocked therefore putting much back pressure on the fuel pump try taking the fuel return line off the injector rail and blowing down it !!! it should blow through pretty freely

PS you might want to take the petrol cap off or something IIRC there is a breather in the tank anway so you might not need to

Thanks for further replies.

The return is free, with no problems. We know this because we removed it at the tank end and powered the pump externally to drain the tank.

It is clear that the second in tank pump wasnt working in the first place. and the other external pump we adapted was fecked too.

the only solution we have left is to try to get the second pump exchanged and take things from there.
