Hi peeps, I’ve had a really bad time with cams recently, I bought a set of "Hi Torque" cams from Courtenay sport and fitted them, I went to the rollers and found that I was 1.5BHP up (quoted 12-15) and the car ran lumpy (ah ballacks), after a lot of messing about, a set of kent adjustable verniers and £450, still no better, since then I have heard from various people that the Courtenay cams are ****e and a waste of money?

Anyways, I’m going to get a PROPER set of kent cams, but am not sure which set will be best (Group N, Fast Road, Supersports etc etc) if anyone has any suggestions / experience of a good set etc, then please let me know! Thanks....

if the engines out the car how do you know you lost power if its out the car?

from what ive seen in xe from round ares coutney (spelling) went like a rocket'
kents were the next best things and pipers where just behind.
A lot of people have said that the Courtenay cams are worth it, but they have done absolutely nothing for my car, has anyone else had this problem at all? :(

Surely there must be some markings on the cams so you can check with them they are the correct ones.

Failing that can you borrow a DTI gauge from somebody and check the lift on them? Perhaps the correct markings but the wrong grind?

Courtenay cams really shouldn't be worse, and should be very much better. Possibly your timing could be wrong, dizzy slipped or something.

Start by checking the cams are 100% correct then start looking elsewhere. If you haven't got a massive grin on your face after a blat then there is something very wrong.

They are going back to Courtenay, I have paid out over £300 in labour for Rolling Road time to get the things set up right, even tried putting adjustable verniers on, I can only assume that like you said they've had the wrong grind or something.
Going to get a set of Kents in there, just not sure which ones hence this thread..... Lost faith with the Courtenay ones!.....

I wouldn't be happy having spent money on RR time if they had supplied the incorrect cams.

Not really sure if you can claim any compensation from them but I would expect them to make some kind of offer, in kind, if only just to keep their reputation in good (better than it would be) stead.

I don't suppose you have RR printouts of before, after and after with verniers just to prove to them that you did try and their cams basically did nowt expect cost you a load of cash.

SBD are pretty much the gods when it comes to the XE so you may want to chat with them, or Giles who seems to be the head guy (on holiday atm I think), as I'm sure he's got some suitable advice.

Pesonally I'd politely push quite hard with Courtenay to compensate you for the costs of the RR and stick with them for the cams. Perhaps ask them to set them up on their RR free (costs you to get there and its not an easy trip from Bristol but make a weekend of it). Seeing as they are making some cash out of you for the cams they should (if they are at all reasonable) do this. They may even get incremental business from you whilst you are there and decide you like something they have.

It would be a shame to give up on them.

Regards
Chris

Cheers for the help with that Chris, may have another think with courtenay, may put a standard set of cams in myself and send them back to courtenay so they can check em and if they are dodgy ones then I may well stick a new set of their cams in, I have already talked with the MD of courtenay about them and requested some compensation etc...
