I have a Calibra 16 v, eco-tec- 1995. I have recently changed the plugs, gaps are fine, leads are fine, and it has just had an MOT emission test which was perfect. Any idea's why it is pinking would be greatly recieved!
Also can the rear camber be adjusted?
Does the engine management not compensate for pinking?. I'm sure i read somewhere the knock sensor checks this and adjusts the mixture accordingly. Try reading your fault codes for a start.
It was just an idea i'm sure one of the other guys will be able to offer more advice on this matter. Try reading one of the read only posts in the archives, i'm sure that is where i read about the knock sensor.
Yes the calibra has a knock sensor but there is so much the ecu can do. I had pinking in my calibra too for a while. Was kind of puzzled as the engine light did not light up to indicate a damaged knock sensor. But after cleaning my injectors, no more pinking! The garage who cleanned my injectors told me that 2 of them were really clogged. That would explain the pinking - the injectors were not able to deliver enough fuel to the cylinders to stop the lean mixture.
pinking should not be confused with the resonance all 20XE make at around 2500-3000rpm. fair enough if its just started doing it, get the injectors ulttrasonically cleaned.

I know its an old one but would be useful to know about this
Mine has a 'pinking' sound when accelerating from low revs. Tends to do it more when the engines hot.
Where does the XE resonance come from?
