I can tell by doing a search that loads of people have argued about this, but I'd love an answer because I got a nice 0-60 time the other night and I was really hoping that I was actually doing 60!
Speedo stated about 62 just below the rev limiter on a standard Motronic ECU (6,700 ish), with F20 box out of an Astra GTE 16v, and I'd hit that in just under 6 seconds.
with stock 14's and crappy 185-65-14 tyres it will pip 60 on the nose in second. but rolling radius is actually made smaller until you get up to 17 inch alloys
With 195/45/R15, standard F20 with the following ratios: (taken from another of your posts Oddball)
1 3.55
2 2.16
3 1.48
4 1.13
5 0.89
FD 3.55
I'd have to be hitting 7,000rpm to get over 60 in second.
It's all academic though really, hitting over 60 in second gear wont make the car any quicker through gears, I absolutely love driving it because of the fat seam of torque it's got from 3000rpm onwards!
It's just something some people are obsessed by when judging a car, so 0-60 will be something mid-6s I guess if I have to shift into 3rd. Still pretty respectable!
A lot of people think they have a fast car because it has long gears and can do a good 60 time because of it. In reality they have an OK car with fairly bland in gear times.
0-60s just sell cars, quarter mile times report the truth.
PS: I shall get a recording of my speedo & rev counter to the limiter in everygear up to 3rd gear soon
My first gear limiter seems to kick in just over 40mph,
second as above seems to be about 68mph,
third is little under 100mph,
fourth limiter is 127mph,
and in fifth it just goes off the clock
*all of which was tested out on my grans private air field*

62mph on the clock here, but I know this was les than 60 in reality because I coud not register a 0-60 run wihout shifting to third. (Standard rev limit)
GTE has 3.55 and it can't hit 60 in 2nd.
Lowering final drive to 3.72 will mean that you can do 3.55/3.72 * 58 = 55 in 2nd assuming that you have the same limit and tyre size.
Btw, going to a 3.44 (allowing 59.9mph in 2nd) will make the car slower on acceleration.
I went the other way. From 3.55 to 3.9. It's knocked about 0.3s off my 1/4 mile and about 0.2s of the 0-60. That's despite me needing to be in the middle of 3rd before making 60. Lmiter in 2nd is about 53mph for me.
According to this calculator, i can hit 60mph on beaker (7000rpm) Thats with 3.55 final drive and 195/45/15 wheels.
When i get the 195/45/16 wheels, will get an extra 2mph.
Speedo is probably out. Do a steady speed and time yourself against the motorway marker posts.
